The rumour mill in India is rife that Royal Enfield are planning a 250cc motorcycle, to be launched in 2014.
Initially, the bike is said to be intended for the domestic Indian market to take on Honda’s CBR250R and the Bajaj Pulsar 250. But with the EU licence rules change the 250cc market is an expanding one, so would be a logical next sales step. A 250cc machine would also be learner-friendly in NZ.
According to local publications, Enfield has secured patents for twin-spark engines between 250cc and 1,250cc.
Enfield owners Eicher Motors refused to confirm the development, saying that there are no plans to launch a smaller-capacity machine in 2013, where interest is centered on the new release of their Café Racer.
