View Full Version : Get behind Team Kiwi for your chance to win $

I looked at all the options and Kiwibiker was at the very top of my list of places I thought we could find potential sponsors and a good old positive kiwi attitude
My ploy so far to get people behind this project is that I have managed to get the one and only Mr Craig Shirriffs on board! The Shirriff and I are planning an all out team Kiwi attack on the Formula Xtreme 500, $100000 winner takes all Endurance Race to be held at Sydney Motorsports Park in November.
The entire event is a massive undertaking. M1 Motorsport director Robert Ramshaw has agreed to supply us with equipment and the 2012 BMW S1000RR that I campaigned throughout the 2013 NZSBK national series.
Craig and I have decided that just to have the opportunity to race at such a prestigious event is reward enough in itself so if we were to win we will be donating all the prize money back to the people who have stepped up to support us at this event.
We need to raise $25000 to compete at this event.
If we win we will be giving back $4 for every $1 donated
Craig and I are 2 of New Zealands top Superbike riders. With the entrys limited to 50 teams and the share nature of endurance racing, the odds are not that bad!
Its not often you get a chance to bet on local motorcycle racing....
We are not accepting any money as yet until we can confirm our entry and all our ducks are in a row but you are the harshest of critics so it will be interesting to hear your thoughts before we float this idea to a larger audience

Why limit the offer to 25 shares, perhaps in these tough times it might be better to sell more shares at a lower price - you might get more interest at $250 each than at $1,000 each for example?

Merv has a point there, I would be much more willing to throw in $250 than a grand.................that grand has to pay for my Cali SBK school levels.
"To be eligible to enter the 500 kilometre race domestic competitors will need to have competed in at least three rounds of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship Sprint Series in any class and or be a returning ex-pat racer or an international competitor wanting to team up with a local FX-Superbike racer. Teams will be limited to two competitors per bike and like with the V8 Bathurst Race team mates who both compete in the FX-Superbike class won’t be able to team up on the same bike."
So which of these applies?

Fabulous idea! Should approach local media for interest/sponsorship too. I'll run it by my contacts but I'd definitely be interested in sponsoring the effort.

Hey guys, thank you for the support!
Some very good ideas actually...
It would mean a tad more book keeping but we could actually say for every $1 donated if we win will return $4 you can donate as much or as little as you choose
I would have to word it correctly so it doesnt look like im running an illegal gambling operation but basically the bet would be on Team Kiwi to win paying odds at 4 to 1

''If we win we will be giving back $4 for every $1 donated''
You are after $25,000 in donations to enter? .. correct?
And if you win, you will give back 4-1 odds? all $25,000 X 4?..that would be a total of the $100,000 in winnings....is that correct?
If I donate $500 and you win, I will receive $2,000?
Perhaps 'double your money' would have been the better odds, incase you win.

They are probably just after the entry fee, winning is not really a reality....possibly? cos 4-1 odds in favour is pretty good.

That would be better for us but not as much of an incentive for people to put $$ in. Craig and I will be happy to just have the opportunity to race the event. We will cry if we win and give away all the money but thats the way it goes

Yeah mate you have, we 'only' need to raise $25000. We wont be offering this deal to anyone after we have raised the money however if you want to put more money in it will be happily received to go toward the other races I will be doing in OZZY

Yes, we are not trying to make money just cover expenses. Those odds are not calculated on our chance of actually winning, they are calcuted on prizemoney / expenses.
Craig and I have a very good shot at winning. We will be able to consistantly lap as quickly as anyone on the track in the race and the given there is only 50 bikes and the nature of endurance racing our odds are good
Gotta love the maths on this thread ............

So in effect, you are asking the public at large to fund something you otherwise can't afford to do?
Which is all well and good, I get that. What I don't get though, is the 1-50 odds on offer at a set rate of 4 X the original investment/donation.
Technically, it is not a ''donation'' if you're offering 4 X the money back...it's a short term investment...best get that clarified.
You may need to reword whats on offer. Just saying, this kind of thing has been tried a couple of times on here over the years and has yet to work out.
What you are doing is to be commended and all the best with that.

That's probably the difference between a bet and a donation in this case. A bet would have a return based on the odds of winning. You're not betting here.
Seems pretty simple to me, you donate some cash and if they win they will donate it back plus a little (or a lot). It would be best not to look at it as a bet I reckon.

That's how I see it. It's sponsorship first and foremost and if they do succeed then they're 'paying back' those that supported them. I have seen people give much more money for absolutely no chance of any return let alone gaining on it in motorcycle racing in NZ so I think it's a brilliant idea. Shame I am not in a position to help as I reckon they could do well!

Donation by definition is...
'Donations are given without return consideration. This lack of return consideration means that, in common law, an agreement to make a donation is an "imperfect contract void for want of consideration." Only when the donation is actually made does it acquire legal status as a transfer or property. civil law jurisdictions, on the contrary, donations are valid contracts, though they may require some extra formalities, such as being done in writing.'
Perhaps Sponsership is the better word to use?

I would use investment with a 1 in 50 chance of return (well better than Lotto)
Anyway love the idea and I hope you both can get the money together to compete.

The team have just purchased a 2012 BMW S1000RR that is located in Sydney.
We also had a surprise call from Mr John Hepburn who has offered to be our Crew Chief!!
Keep an eye out for the fundraising efforts guys. I havnt decided on a final repayment to sponsors if we win but it will be either $1-$3 or $1-$4. It might be different for different contributions but keep your eyes peeled because I know how keen everyone is to start giving away money :msn-wink:

People are usually keen to support genuine talent and NZ has its share of genuinely world class riders! I'm sure everyone would be keen to contribute whether they could actually afford to or not. Moral support is also important.
I will be happy to help so as soon as you get the sponsorship package sorted I can let you know what I can do.

Yes mate I have been extremely pleased with the positive support we have received. Fortunately Moggy and M1 Motorsport LTD are right behind the project so everything will be well organised financially.
I will be doing my own racing in Australia this year as well which is a whole different set of fundraising that I have been concentrating on and im not sure what it is but it must be something in our transtasmen rivalry that gets people excited about helping.
I have been making some great contacts in Australia and if there are any other Kiwis that are interested in getting to some Australia events then get in touch with me because there is a lot I can do to help
