the latest round of the ASBK is on this weekend and they're saying the new superpole format is amazing blah blah blah. Anyone out there able to tell us how it's formatted?

Check out www.mcnews.com.au, Spyda. They've disabled the copy function on the website so can't copy/paste it here but they reckon the 3 session Superpole format is replicating WSB, with a point awarded for pole.

Full supp reg's are here, but it's farkin' complicated!

24 Superpole (for Superbike & Supersport)
After Qualifying for Superbike and Supersport, each of these classes will have a separate Superpole session.

24.1 Participants – Superpole
- The first 13 riders of the qualifying practice results will take part in Superpole 1 (10 minutes).
- The first 9 riders of the Superpole 1 results will take part in Superpole 2 (8 minutes).
- The first 5 riders of the Superpole 2 results will take part in Superpole 3 (8 minutes).
- In each Superpole, in the event of a tie, the qualifying practice results will be taken into account.

24.2 Starting grid – Superpole
- 1st row: the first 4 riders of Superpole 3;
- 2nd row: the 5th rider of Superpole 3, and 6th, 7th and 8th rider of the Superpole 2;
- 3rd row: the 9th rider of Superpole 2, and 10th, 11th and 12th rider of the Dry Superpole 2;
- 4th row: the 13th rider of Superpole 1, and then the remaining riders from 14th on in the order of Qualifying.
In the event of Superpole being declared wet by the Clerk of Course, the above Superpole schedule may be subject to modification.

One assumes that they must be running at tracks where the sound system allows punters watching to actual hear who's where and whats going on, or maybe even a big screen display?
For little-ole Kiwiland, - I still like the idea of 600s and 1000s completing a sprint race on the Saturday arvo.
2 main reasons, One: Its a better spectacle than watching qualifying (IMO), and Two: A 15 race series simply allows for more opportunities for riders in a points acruing championshp for ups & downs to occur.

Bollocks. When would you have Q? they cant run on time as it is with the exception of a couple. Will also add more expence for tyres and sprint races are stupid no set or tyre strategy involved which doesnt teach anyone anything. As it is we run shorter races than any other National series in the world.
If you want your 5 min races stay in the grandads class :ar15:

Just watched moto gp qualifying. Not sure if I am a fan of their new qualifying system either. Guess it kinda creates two points of climax rather than one but there is less actual track/qualifying time from the previous system.

HaHa u reckon your 15 laps is an endurance race now aye ? - man you must be unfit...... :-)

Put your spectators hat on for a mo and have a think about what i am saying, Its about the interest that the average punter has when watching qualifying - most of em are wandering around wondering what the hell is going and asking "when is the racing going to start"

Re Tyres: So you are telling me you dont put a new set of tyres on qualifying ?, - So where is the saving compared to blowing a set in a third race ? , Thats just the same ole boring argument - "oh its too expensive to race superbikes"

Re fitting it all into a day tho , - yeah at some events thats a tough one. Could always drop the F3 Beginners class though aye!

I like the format of qualifying, - as long as the interaction with the public is there, in the case of MotoGP & other high level events great TV, and commentary makes it an awesome part of the racing day

we need to grow your/our race package as a show case.... more races will help the Saturday crowd and build for Sunday, give them what they want....entertainment, reproduce the last superbike race at Taupo on a Saturday and i'm sure they will talk about it that night and bring some friends along for Sunday... means we all win

just my two cent

Yip,

I have already discussed some of the ideas mentioned in this thread with those that have contacted me and they will be happening next season,Can't say too much at this stage,But plan some reasonably big changes to the format for next year,With 1 set of officials for the whole series with clear instructions to try and introduce some consistency.

Pretty sure i never implied having shorter races........... The 1st one you wobble around for on Sunday is already a sprint race to my mind - so an extra one of those on Saturday is an option.

Re crowd numbers, I am happy that you agree with me on that one, - do you have any constructive ideas on that, - that doesnt involve a pot load of cash.

One additional thing i am 100% sure of is that 5 meetings wth 3 races (15 in total ) is gonna be a lot more time and cost efficient than another idea suggested elsewhere which is to have 7 meetings with 2 races (14 in total).

If you are worried about qualifying time and places - there are many many different ways to establish who sits where on a start grid........... and some of the options are particularily groomed to be spectator satisfaction driven.

Agreed, + one ticket purchases 2 days of entry is another simple incentive.

The main problem is people just are not aware that these events are even on - there are a dozen guys at work who ride bikes and none of them knew about the nats.
AS for the long standing street races everyone in NZ with even a mild interest in motor sport knows that on boxing day it is on at the cemetery circuit and that Pearoa is on not long after.
AS for the punters :facepalm:
One year the Vic club ran a national round I was on the gate and 6 guys on bikes rocked up - parked came over looked at the sign saying $20 entry then buggered off - I mean they were motorcyclists, they were already there but $20 put them off ????
Another problem is people are just weird - The next year Vic Club ran the national round with free spectator entry and it made fuck all difference to the attendance ( I counted the cars and bikes in the car park both years)
I will be keen to find out attendance figures for this year at Taupo.

I wish I did have an idea that didn't involve spending $$$ on TV adds. :(

I went and watched the MX nationals in Pukekohe. It was only $15 to enter, they had 2 elite classes a development class and a support class that used modern race bikes. The riders were top class. I was there for about 3 hours and managed to see 4 elite class races. Great day
