Depends what you're looking for in a bike, there's plenty on there now, but you won't find much that is OP for a newb.

Nothing in bike size but you can do more on a restricted (like carry a pillion)

Here's an idea....
Stop trying to keep up.

when i say trying to keep up i more mean watching him disappear into the distance, actively trying quickly turns to being way to hot in corners getting bad cases of target fixation

Let the ink dry on your L license before you start looking for a bigger bike.

hahahaha id hardly call myself youth, but i guess your right the ninja will do me for now,
and im very familiar with the list i studied it 10 fold more than the road code prior to getting my learners and the ninja, was [ ] this close to a ninja 300 but cudnt justify $9500 on my first bike that im more than likely gunna drop one way or another

The older bikes teach a lot about what it's like on bigger bikes. For example ... what heavy bikes at low speed feel like ... (without the handicap of horsepower)

Nope. Absolutely no difference between the two, other than displaying a L plate.

WRONG ... didn't you read THIS bit .. ???
While on a learner licence:
You must only ride an approved motorcycle.
Your motorcycle must display a learner (L) plate - rear only.
You must not carry a passenger.
You must not ride between 10pm and 5am.
You must not tow another vehicle.
You face severe penalties if you ride outside the licence conditions.

Only difference seems to be the L plate? And, the severe penalties bit...
Wish they'd at least change the curfew or something if one holds a full license

here's another Idea,
learn to ride first, a 250 Ninja/GPX/ZZR are quite 'adequate' they can 'just' do the old imperial 'Ton'.. your a learner, all you will do buying a sprotbike from reading your posts, is 'Cream yourself' over the road somewhere... Your 250 will out accelerate 80% of cars on the road to 100kph.. stop thinking with your ego, and think with the top 2 inches!!!

Do your time, get your full, THEN get a bigger bike.
I rode on my 250 for 5 years before I decided to upgrade... To a litre bike then a hayabusa 6 months later...
And yes im a Donor

No difference except the L plate. You can't carry passengers.
I've got a Ninja too and yea it is gutless. But it's still a motorcycle, so just enjoy the ride and stay shiny side up. I don't know you, but judging by your wanting to keep up with your mate (whether that was a throw away comment or not, there will still be some truth to it) you would probably come off a bigger bike pretty quickly if you had one.
Enjoy your time on your 250, learn it inside and out, so that when the time comes on your full to upgrade you will be 100% confident that you can handle it.
As for the LAMS list, the Ninja 250 is easily in the top 5 from that list in terms of power, looks, reliability and maneuverability, in my opinion.

Learn to ride it better. You've already made a significant investment buying an over rated bike, so you may as well get your moneys worth eh?
Good to read you're not trying to keep up.
If your bike still has the factory fitted IRC tyres, throw them away, get something better like BT45, Sport Demons or Pilot Sporty (if you can find them, not to be confused with Pilot Sport)
You can have fun on underpowered bikes and straight lines are gay.

sell your 250, buy a 150 and go bucket racing. You will learn more in one weekend there than three years on the road. and pay less fuel...

It would be smarter for him to spend that money on life insurance / income protection insurance for when he comes off.

One of the people I ride with has a ninja 250, He used to have a z6 but at the end of a long ride he is no where near as fatigued as he used to be, But I think he just needs to learn how to ride still even though he has been on the road for many many years he still doesn't counter steer, when you follow him he just doesn't seam to flow that well...
So I second the get some time with a good instructor, put some good tyres on and learn to ride well and it will set you up for a grunty heavy bike, the Ninja will be more forgiving while you find the ways :)

I believe Katman was referring to the cash that you'd have to pay the Audi drivers insurance company, as without insurance they'll rape your wallet.

You can ride on a Ninja 250 and put all your weight on one peg and it will not turn, it will slowly wander across the road. Same goes with just leaning without holding the bars
Bikes turn with counter steering, be it conscious, sub conscious or accidental :2thumbsup they don't turn otherwise

HE did ask if I wanted a ride..... but I turned him down, Simply to cramped for me.....
The tricked up Z6R was more tempting but as the rider wasn't the owner I turned that down too..... can't go getting on a bike with horsepower or I might be wanting more
I am happy to cruise on oblivious to revs and horse power and just rely on torque :P

I am happy to cruise on oblivious to revs and horse power and just rely on torque :P I love to cruise along too. Might even get a slightly cruiser-esque bike one of these days, my ZX6 is about as comfy as a colonoscopy. Mind you, my GN is a comfy wee fellow and should have enough power to thump along happily (and shake my teeth out) :2thumbsup
