Thinking about getting my boy a 50cc bike. What are the good brands? Any body got a recommendation?

Would be happy for a fix up so what to look for?

A KDX50 would be perfect as it will look like Dads bike. What are they like for maintenance etc? Reliable?

kDX50's are Suzuki LT50, they only came here for a couple of years around 04/05 when suzuki and kawasaki were sharing bikes,

they are bullet proof, have not changed mechanically since the late 70's, had a couple of facelifts along the way,

yamaha PW50's are also very good, same deal, same bike forever,

PW50. They're unchanged mechanicaly since '80s. Google "only PW" and trick it out with some cool new plastics.

NONE! Motorcycles are dangerous and should not be used by children whatsoever. Just you wait till Sue Bradford reads this..... There will be a mob of hairy liberal females on your doorstep before you know it!

are you sure a 50 will be big enough? Our boy outgrew his & at 6 1/2 is on a DRZ70 - still auto clutch, still able to govern, but big enough for him to not bottom out....?

Buy a second hand PW50 to start with you'll never have a problem selling it on, they haven't changed since the 80's besides the colour. After that a PW80 same as a PW50 so he gets to know the basics just minus a clutch lever . Once a 2 smoke man always a 2smoke man.

To be fair hes a little timid so a bike he grows out of quickly is no problem.

I will keep an eye out for a PW50.

the PWs are a bit lower than the JRs if height is in the equation.
