View Full Version : Cars VS Bikes (general interest)

Alot of us absolutley love bikes, alot of us love cages too.
at december 19 2004 I couldnt give a crap about anything with an engine (unless it was something I built)
but on a whim I bought a motorbike for $2000 (my loan has just reached the point where im actually paying of the bike itself not the interest) the little RGV150 that heaps of people have seen on the rides. its crap its small its useless for long rides.
but I wonder how many of us (the KB community) drool over bike pics like I do now. I seem to have developed this sudden emotional fantasy over bikes that I never knew or thought I would have about these loverly 2 wheeled mechanical machines.
as of Dec 19 2004 I wouldnt have touched the shit or bought a mag or even glanced differently if I saw a bike down the road. NOW, even I am flirting with something nice I'll stop talking and stare at a biker going down the road with awe. I buy bikey mags and I sit on these forums all day.
(ps I bought my bike on Dec 20)

Only reason I have a cage (van) is to transport bikes around, if i didn't race I'd have a road bike and thats it, so cheap to run.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. However I've always been that way. Oh well, worse addictions to have, I reckon

Can't stand 'ordinary bikes/cars (or women, hence C.B.)'
I love all 'different' types of wheels.
That's why we have the Sporty 1200 'S', the XN85, the '62 Fairlane, the '55 F100, the 105E Anglia, the '62 Mistral etc, etc,
I love all non-standard people and wheels eh!!

I still do all that stuff after 50yrs. (apart from flirting) buy all the mags, annoy the hell out of any biker who parks within a hundred yards, Bike salesmen run for cover when they see me coming. There's no cure for it. You'll have to get a GF who feels the same or there's no future for the relationship. Your mates at work will be bored to tears with your enthusiasm. Neighbours will be pissed off at the noise when your mates arrive, park on the lawn and don't leave till late at night, and you'll never get the grease from under your fingernails. The size of the bike doesn't matter. If it's got two wheels and a WOF it's a bike, enjoy it and start planning for the next one.

I'm with Scumdog - I'll walk right past the bikes you drool over and go over every inch of some 150cc scooter from Slovinkia...if it's out of the square,I'm in!
I work on cars for a living, they bore me shitless - but I know everything about them,I don't see the same things you do.....I drive a dozen different cars a day,the cars that give you an orgasm give me a yawn....the cars you laugh at make me laugh out loud with the thrill.
Cars and bikes are intertwined with me,it's mechanical knowledge....and I use it for bikes as my passion, for cars to make a living.

I'm thinking of selling my cage....
The only good thing i see about it is how i can sleep in it after getting boozed...

You obviously don't have the right kind of cage, be assertive, we can have both bikes AND cages bikes eh? :woohoo:

Like Motu, I have to work on cars every day, nice cars too, but I wouldn’t own one unless I had to!
Unlike Motu I will do anything not to work on bikes... I'll give mine an oil change and the other easy bits but anything else and I don’t want to know.
I love riding, but get me to pick up a spanner after hours? Na!
Cars are for work, but bikes are for fun and I don’t want the lines blurred!

Cars and bikes are cool, I can appreciate any form of motor-driven vehicle.

You obviously have never had the RIGHT kind of cages/bikes!
Get the right type of either and you can have fun, don't believe all this shit about 'bikes' vs 'cages', the right one is FUN-FUN-FUN.
I love them both, - BUT it has to be 'fun' types of wheels eh?

I have always loved cars and bikes and as a motoring journalist I've been lucky enough to drive some very expensive cars. Can't ride the bikes - I'm only 5'1" and can't reach the ground on most of them!
Love the smell of AV gas, adore drooling over bikes and flash cars - buy lots of bike and car magazines (can legitimately write them off on my tax too!) and wish Top Gear/Fifth Gear was on every day!
Love speed - co-drove in a rally car for a few years and miss it like crazy.

I kind of like my Cage, It gets all the money spent on it , Its old and needs good care, I like working on it.
My bike gets what it needs to be safe and reliable , I would much rather ride my bike than work on it and that includes cleaning it.

Nice Dave, I love anything with an engine and/or goes fast(includes windsurfers and boats).
Always had many cars, 7 at one stage. Have only had mechanics work on any of them 4 times, twice I regretted it and one of those times I had to then fix it myself after I got it back and it cost me $350 for the privilage.
I now have found a good mechanic in papakura which were the last 2 times.

Far out!
This thread hasn't turned into a slogging match yet! So good to see there is such a variety of comments from both sides of te coin.
I myself have my bike as the pride and the car as the more practical means of transport. As in, when the gf wants to come along too (i'm still on the learners by the way). The car will easily leave the bike behind on the open road (93 gt Leagacy), but the speed in a car is really boring when compared to speed on two wheels... Then there is the obvious reasons like fuel economy..
Anyway i basaically enjoy both, maybe 3/4 bike and 1/4 car biased.

Im like you Pyro, altho its only been a (wonderful) 3weeks, and 3 or 4 visits to the shop - doh!. I now drool/look at every bike - including scooters - not drool, notice. Not going to bother buying a car till I can afford to go rallying.

i love anything with wheels and a motor- i am definantly bike biased but really enjoy working on my brothers cars and love my scooter to bits. if i hear a bike coming down the street i run to see what its is and then wish i owned it. i have always had a think for bikes since i can remeber and ill never get bored with them :)

yep... I've converted to bikes... I also own a nissan pulsar gti-r (pretty quick 2ltr turbo 4wd hatch) - this used to be my dream car and I'd loved it for about three or four years... but since getting my bike it's been relegated to once a week commuting duty
