Heard through the grape vine that a friend of a friend was pulled over by a mufti police bike. Pretty sketchy on the details but I was told it was unmarked and had the blue and red lights. Has anyone seen this before?

not me.. doesnt entirely sound feasible.

I have been pulled over by a policeman in his own car though (going to or from work).

He has a reputation of chasing down the alleged offenders now ... bionic knees may be of some help in this regard in a few weeks ...

Dont see why they would'nt.. the UK several area's (divisions) have things like Hayabusa's in 'mufti'.. why would'nt the NZ Police think similar?

If they dont they should - they would be able to catch a lot of txting drivers while filtering through traffic. I see drivers playing on their phones while driving just about every day.

Used to see the odd one up on the firebreaks above Wainui/Lower Hutt as a kid. They were *armed* with XL and XT250's. Was great fun when armed with an RM400! :-)

If they saw half as many as I do on the commute to work we could pay off the national debt :P

Haven't seen any of the new ones but this isn't new. I remember seeing some in the late 80's early 90's, the bikes I remember seeing where a GSXR1100 and early CBR1000f with lights and sirens. Didn't go ahead with they as they where supposedly to expensive to maintain or so the policeman I was talking to told me.

Be careful what you wish for.

We, in our very safe world, seem to be very good at seeing problems where there are none. Utter madness!

I very much doubt there are any mufti police bikes. Plus, the police struggle with enough budget to run the existing fleet (which are now kept for longer, more km put on them etc).

The closest I can think of in appearance would be the odd security company bike which was deliberately done up to look close-ish to the police bikes to get a conditioned response. I thought there were only 2 and one had been sold, the other was up for sale...

"Hearsay is information gathered by one person from another person concerning some event, condition, or thing of which the first person had no direct experience."

You actually don't have a clue what you're on about do you?

i have heard of a bike that has changed hands recently, which could very well be mistaken for a police bike in the Wellington Region.

I have heard of an unmarked patrol bike in the town I work in. It's called my personal bike. Ride like a wanker in front of me while I'm off duty and I'll get in touch next time on on duty.

Could end up with 40-50 riders all hooning around in an endless race till dark, even had the Poopoo turn up with there CB650's to check us out didn't stop us just went faster with lots of bar banging etc.

Mines got a red light on the back if that counts, somehow I think the the hi vis jacket with police written on it would be a give away on a mufti bike

Mufti cops would wear a suit and tie ... wouldn't they .. ?? <_<

Out of interest how does knowing either way help?

Caught out us caught out, radar is radar - Police radar and detectors.

Unless you slowly cruise past a bike then hit twat mode after checking??

It seems unlikely you would check every bike carefully as you go on your merry way.

Then there is coming round corners or over hills at mach 3 and suddenly getting a certificate for your efforts which is a risk always in getting busted.

Then you get mail ... As our own Mr R would do.

The first line in the letter says ... "I saw you .. " Which is just as legal as "I stopped you ... "
