alright its gonna have to be a late start... i just found out i have a 9am apointment in takapuna which im gonna be getting $40 fuel vouchers for

will meet the shore people at 'the pad' between the bike shops on barry's point, ready to go at 10AM(or when i arive)...

then we will stop in at papakura autobahn at around the 10.30 mark...

is that sweet? Probly stop in coromandel/whitianga for lunch before finishing the ride home.

hey people,

i know there is already some people going out to do 22 on saturday, as an alternative i will be doing either botany-kaiaua or coromandel loop or BOTH!!! all depends on whos keen and what for. Either way it will be moderate paced as im not too familiar with the roads out them ways.

So whos keen?

will post times etc when i know what people want to do.

Hey you guys should come along and do 22. It's a mint road for all types of bikes - we all there to have fun, not race. Or both :woohoo:
As they say - the more the merrier :ride:

What kind of attitude is that, crashe? Where's your sense of adventure?
[Says Mr Dumbarse, who'll probably be sitting at home....]

Cos when I went through there the last time ( a couple of weeks back)....
I was totally shattered afterwards.
I still have not built up my riding fitness after my operation.
And I also just about dropped my bike on those rocks...
The back wheel hit a rock on the wrong angle and the bike started to go over.

So sorry but, I won't be going down 22 until its fixed.

I'd be keen for the Coromandel loop if you want to make a day of it.
The 22 is a cool road but was pretty rough the last time I went down it.

It will come back.... just taking time is all.

I fully understand that crashe, what you say makes sense, sadly it won,t be getting fixed anytime soon, but for those not recovering from surgery, its only a section about 8m long that has the rocks, and each day its getting better, lots of milk tankers, stock trucks and loggers use it,which seem to be smoothing it out a bit, the other slight variations on the road surface on 22 are all just character building challanges.

I also vote for the Loop. :not:Please:not: can we do the loop :not: :not: :not:

The Kaiaua rds are too straight and boring and I never liked them.

I'll do my BEST to try to find enough money to join you....:woohoo:

So what?? We meeting at the Dadakumara Motobarn?? At what time?? Bout 9am??

R6_kid
19th August 2005, 15:47
ok then, how about we make a day out of the loop then. I have only ever travelled as far as thames (thornton bay about 12km up the coast) on my bikes and its been years since i've been up past that way in a car.

Was hoping someone that had done it before would want to come and could show me the way.

JSG how long does it usually take? I've heard 4-5hours is usually the average?

justsomeguy
19th August 2005, 16:35
Umm - the last time we went we left around 9:30am and were back home by 4pm.

Can't wait -

I don't really know the way by heart - usually just keep riding and figure it out as we go - it's an easy road as we usually stick to the highway (SH25) all the way.

We usually meet at the Autobahn join SH1 turn back to Papakura go through the Hunuas and on to Miranda then to Kopu Mobil via SH2 then it's pretty much stick to the main road.

If Zapf and Chikenfunkstar are coming then hopefully between us we should be ok - :niceone:

Meeting time and place???

Just keep turning right once you hit the coast road :ride: ..i got 360 kms Manukau return ( 2 teeth up on the rear so the speedo would be reading a little high)...sure 4 or 5 hours sounds about right.... only roadworks i remember (and was also posted by someone else) was the hill down into Whitianga with new seal.

I’ve just done a trip down to coromandel town; take the back roads and not SH1/2. I reckon whitford, clevedon, kawakawa bay, orere, wharekawa, Miranda, waitakaruru, thames…………the roads are good, ok standard kiwi but no loose stuff or major damages and it took me 2 hours and a bit from howick.

Have fun and maybe I will be able to join for the way back to AKL, either in thames or kopu! Here my mob number 021 1 566 500

Mattt - Have you not seen the washout section.... thats not gravel thats rocks... I won't be doing 22 until they fix up the road.

Yeh Nah that's ok, I've done the math.
8 meters travelled at 180kph gives you a time spent on the rocks of roughly 0.16sec. Your suspension won't even notice it

OK WHERE THE FARK DID EVERYBODY GO??

I reached the Autobahn just after 11. Realised I was too late and buggered off via the Hunuas, Miranda, SH2, Kopu.

Reached the Mobil and asked the lady at the counter who said a group of bikes had left towards Thames about 5 mins ago must have been bout 12ish - I guess.......

So took off did the loop and was back at Kopu at 2:40:oi-grr:

Did at least 3-4 laps of both Coromandle and Whitianga towns but no sign of you fellas stopped for lunch or anything???

Anyway- rode non-stop hoping to catch some of you idjits but  NO BLAARDY SIGN OF ANYONE???????????????

Reached back home at 4:30

Where the hell did all of you go??:chase:

Oh, yeah - I decided to change my oil as I woke up a bit early. Then needed to find a socket spanner as the bolt head was too rounded to come off with a regular spanner....... so got delayed.

Anyway now finding out you had a newbie I'm glad I didn't join up with you guys as I like to play around on those roads.

Kopu to Kopu took around 2:40 but there was a bit of time spent searching for you guys and stopping at petrol stations asking if they'd seen a bunch of bikes go past......

Hopefully next time I can do it in 2:30 or less.

EDIT: For the PC Brigade: When I say I'm glad I didn't join you with a newbie I mean I'll be less of a hazard with my unsafe riding skills and horrible lines and poor control and all those other things I need to straighten out.......... so I was better off by myself. I'm glad that you guys enjoyed yourselves out there.:ride:

holey shit, its taken me two days to reply!

That ride was totally awesome...

big ups to keystone (as per usual) what i didnt tell you was that for a while on the bit before whitianga i actually slowed down on the straights (like 60-70kmh) because with all that traffic i wanted to make sure nothing had gone wrong. But considering the power difference im sure the VTR did get a thrashing - i know my ZXR did :devil2:

not to be stink JSG, but me and keystong werent taking it easy by any means and the pace set by the sportier 250's was at times a bit faster than the bigger bikes. I know that its probably the fastest i've ever ridden (apart from when i let the bigger bikes through so testosterone didnt take hold)

victoria, hope you had an awesome day... always good to have new people getting into the game.

to the northcote boys, we gotta get out more on our two fiddy's that ride back was pretty crazy - lucky there were no cops :Punk:

cheers everyone for coming, i know i really enjoyed it :ride:

You would have been waiting a while Gareth, we stopped at the top of the hill for about 20 minutes and had a chat with a rider who had just come up the other way. Sorry about that, should have told you we were stopping. And I'm sure you didn't slow that much... :devil2:

R6_kid
22nd August 2005, 19:48
oh yup sure sure, im talking about the bit where i passed victoria and crashe then passed you... i wasnt really around you much before that (perhaps it was after whitianga) i passed you then blasted off at some mental ZXR pace and was pushing it a tad harder than you on the corners.

either way im pretty sure we were both near the limits of our bikes today, im not too keen on finding the edge of my front tyre as that tends to be the one that hurts if you screw it up

oh yup sure sure, im talking about the bit where i passed victoria and crashe then passed you... i wasnt really around you much before that (perhaps it was after whitianga) i passed you then blasted off at some mental ZXR pace and was pushing it a tad harder than you on the corners.

either way im pretty sure we were both near the limits of our bikes today, im not too keen on finding the edge of my front tyre as that tends to be the one that hurts if you screw it up

Give her a new bike and a few months and she will be making a lot of us look silly, her lines are perfect :devil2:
