Is happiness the smell of two stroke first thing in the morning,or a facefull of roost?
It was the Vintage MX final round last weekend and after 10 years the current organising committee are stepping aside. Is this the end?
I hope not as there are to many good bastards involved to let a good thing die.
This years series saw a lot more new (and younger)faces appear on the scene and now it is time for maybe a new format/organisers/classes etc.
This is still the most cheapest form of racing going,as anyone with a shed and a socket-set can get one of these old shitters out on what has to be the best country for natural terrain racing.
No MNZ,no licenses,no track hireage, only old school MXing and everyone out there for a laugh.

Nothing beats the smell of bean oil on a cold misty morning and the rasp of a well jetted two stroke coming on to the pipe.
4 Four strokes were neat for a change, when it was the odd one running.
But all the 4 stroke in MX now. Well the noise is a yawn feat.
I would much rather listen the 50's and the 65 mini's.

That's my take on MX also, only wish they could bring a few rounds closer to Dorkland to lower the traveling costs say Hamilton, Raglan, Thames etc my 1984mxc needs to be ridden on those tracks.

You could be in luck ktm as current talk is about having the various regions organising a round each and all contributing to the series.
Nothing concrete as yet but there are a few Auckland guys regularly turning up (one is #50 giving the learn to young Brad Groombridge in the white FOX gear in the last pic)
There are others from Waikato/East Coast,Taupo,Wanganui and Wellington but keep an eye on the Livewire website as hopefully more info will become available.
As an aside after that pic was taken Brad pissed off into the distance and left us crusties to it.He told me he loves riding these old bikes (RM 125 and a CR 500)as they make him faster on the moderns.

Agreed
All the noise none of the performance and a rebuild regime that's dodgier than a Bangladeshi builders
Save the planet ban two strokes, less smoke out the pipe but a whole lot more out the factory chimney making pistons valves and cams
Ya gotta laugh

I sure as fuck hope not. I'm in a cast at the mo...have been for a while. I'd hate it all to die out as I get closer to finally being able to join in properly!

No worries Pete,it's too good of a thing to let die.And there's to many of us to let it.
And with more younger riders turning up maybe now is the time to introduce a Pre 90 class.
There is still a lot of these Pre 90 bikes languishing at the back of sheds and perusing through trademe lately I think some are asking way to much for current VMX bikes.
10 years ago I picked my bike up ex-Japan for 800 bucks, chucked some new tyres on it and cleaned the carb out and went racing.
That's what it's about. But as always some fucker want's to make a buck.

No i am sure there was the 441's and the HL rep's and all other period stuff are great. (oh just looked at the pics a A50/65 and a XL350?)
It's just the boring "same sounding generic new 4 stroke, on the limiter" that does my head in.

Nah. I've put it back on him mate. He's pretty desperate to get his hands on my spare SR250 engine which is 100% complete...
If not...I'll simply race it as an SR250. But I'm getting closer to finishing my RM400T and an 84 KX125 (my first ever race bike).

A 84KX125 probably Kawasaki best 125 made for the era , remember the fast guys on them Jody Bates, Pommi Greg Hanson , Leon Andrew etc.
The late Barry Senn had a trick 84 WP shock, anti cav fork kit , PC pipe combo .

Yeah can honestly say I don't think I was ever beaten into turn one on mine. Best race bike I've owned by far. It was a rocket compared to the other brands back then.
