Service ZXR250C DIY

The chain is well worn on my ZXR250c (1994) and the time has come to do some maintenance.
I figure since the clutch was only done 1000kms ago, that they would have changed the oil and filter?
I am relatively mechanically minded and can do most things on cars etc, but I am new to bikes.
What must I look out for when changing the chain and sprokets? Is there a specific tension to tighten the chain to, and how do I know how tight is too tight? Are there any little tricks or knacks that I should know about?

About how long should it take to do?

Any help would be great.

Chains aren't too bad to do. Good to see you're 'chainging' your sprockets too.

Here is the ZXR sevice specs you want between 7 and 15 mm of free play.
I'd go for at least 10 mm To tight and you'll kill your gear box.

Use locktite when bolting your sprokets and wheel back on (262 or 242).

Make sure the joining link is facing the right direction when you put your new chain on.

Take the wheel off by loosining it and pusing it forward, unhooking the chain and then removing the axle. Make sure the bike is on a very stable footing. If it falls over without a back wheel in it it'll be a real prick to pick back up.

While you've got your wheel out check the wheel bearing operation with your finger. It should be smooth. Also check brake pads and disc for wear while you've got your wheel off. It's also a good time to clean the swing arm etc...

Hey ya Brett, as Bartman said it's all fairly straight forward adjusting ya chain. If you ever got any problems or Q's feel free to drop me a line, due to a job change (sort of) i got a hell of alot of spare time now (cool eh) (not when the money isnt rolling in still) so it'd be sweet if you wanted to bowl round and i can show you, or help you out, whatever aye.
