Well, new second hand... 1994 Bimota SB6... has taken many long months to finally get it (from Japan) and it is AWESOME... rode from Christchurch to Blenheim yesterday and the thing corners like its on rails... but less than 500 rpm difference between 100kph and 120kph... nice cop in a cop truck gave me the waggly finger warning and managed to avoid two others by considerate motorists flashing lights etc.. so all in all was a good ride.. except for cars with those projector beam headlights that are too hight... very annoying in the dusk.... and after driving my landcruiser i didn't realise how shite NZ roads are.. firm as oak seat and rear suspension probably didn't help :) Only saw one bike going in opposite direction.. was a cruiser and he/she didn't wave back :(
Now need to find fellow bikers in Blenheim that want to ride... think there's a car and bike show here in the next weekend but can't find the paper the ad was in (wife started fire the nice piece of paper conveniantly left on the table ...) so might meet some bikers there.. anyone know anything about this?
might go out and clean the bugs off it now... :)

Just curious as to why you purchased it from Japan, when there are a couple here? Was it cheaper or only one owner?
Very nice looking bike anyway, if you want some race fairings I think Glen at justfairings does some for the SB6.

Thanks for all the greetings.. yeah does go rather well... and got it from Peter at Emoto.. was actually after a Jap TL1000 but they are getting expensive as they seem to become fairly cult in America so I put the same money on this as a long shot.. as you do.. but never thought I'd get it.. very happy...14000km's and one owner, plus the nicer paint scheme than the ones in Auckland.. they are the 1996 and are all grey, IMHO.
And not just a standard GSXR motor.. somewhat tweaked I believe.. 156hp and 80ft/lb torque which is a bit up on standard.... sound the bollox too
Yeah there are great roads around here.. Queen Charlotte drive might need a group run soon eh? Great road but too many sight seeing tourists in campervans.... they don't move out of the way for the landcruiser so not much chance on a bike...
cheers for the tip on fairings.. though the carbonfibre looks superb.. even a carbonfibre numberplate braket.. the finishing and detail is amazing, no wonder they were so expensive 11 years ago... the current SB8 is listed at 27,500 pounds stirling!! And the new model Tesi with the hub steering is worth a look, as is its awesome machined frame.. www.bimota.it is a good site and has english version.....
will get more photos soon.
cheers

If memory serves, Bimota put their own pistons, cams and exhaust into them. Just wondering if you could give us some feedback about what it's like to purchase a bike from japan? I'm sure quite afew of us would be interested. Also wondering, if you could give us an idea of the total cost of buying the bike and getting it into the country, really liked the Bimota's, but for the price difference of a second hand bike and a new bike I went with the new bike, would certainly look at them in the future though - nice to have something different in the garage.
Cheers.

Buying from Japan was easy as i went through Emoto.co.nz and the price you give them includes all the shipping, VIN, wharf fees, warehouse fees etc... so all that was extra for me was reg and a new set of plugs and a carb clean that was organised for me so I could fly down and ride home... simple! Prices are about 20% less, but its the fact that the mileages are so low that is the bigger drawcard.. plus the choice... mine is easily less than the two in Auckland but has less than half the mileage as well.. and the TL1000r's I was bidding on were typically 5 -10k kms. The website has hundreds and hundreds of bikes on auction each Wednesday.. so if you miss one week you generally get a shot the following.. unless you're after a rare bike... many Hogs and Tumpets there too as they are status in Japan...
On the down side you can't see the bike yourself but there is a rating on condition etc... I was more than slightly worried about fitting onto my bike.. 6'4" on a Bimota does work though... and the wind blast takes weight off the wrists... wouldn't want to ride for more than 4 hours again... seat like a church pew.
PM me if you want more info or go to the site.. I don't want to get a smack from admin for advertising or anything....
however, I did get a super bike for the price of a secondhand Japanese 600 so I'm well chuffed and I'd definately do it again!

Got my bike that way as well and was fairly hassle free, bike was better in real life than in the pics and the condition rating was on the money
