View Full Version : Mid-90s K1100 Tourer - high km - is that a bad thing?

Hey there guys,

Very very close now to purchasing my 2nd bike. I can only spend up to $4.5K due to financial circumstances.

My question is, with a mid-90s BMW tourer that has high ks, is there anything I should be aware of? Is this a good idea or should I just go for something a little younger with lower ks like a bandit perhaps?

Any advice greatfully appreciated. :-)

Good point - this one has just over 100,000Ks on it.

I personally did not like the K100 the one time I rode one. very big long and ungainly. They apparently all smoke at startup if parked on the sidestand over night (the bores point down and the combustion chamber is the lowest point.

For the same money you would get an r80 or r1000 or something which is functionally equivalent but cooler.

But I will admit i have never owned one.

The K series never did much for me (or BMW for that matter .....)

IMHO you would be better off with one of these. I owned one - big gruntly engine that will outlast the BMW (Bandit engine). Very underated bike that gobbles up the kms when touring. The riding position is on the sporty side but you can buy riser bars from F1 Engineering in Hanilton that raise the bars 50mm or so. Reckon they would let it go for darn near $4k - a lot of bike for little coin. Modern size 17 inch wheels (170 or 180 rear - 120 front). Servicing is oil and filters and a valve check every 24k.

$4k would buy this and you have $500 left over for jack daniels and hookers

The question is do you drink the JD first to make the hooker look more attractive or save it for later to sterilise your penis? You could always do a combo and use the JD as a lube …….

I sprinkle it on my penis then set it on fire to sterilise any nasty diseases, then I sing this song really loudly:

I loved Flesh D Vice back in the day.

Shihad quite often do a cover of this. (and of course Eugene (I think was his name) was their first manager..

Buying an old BMW K series as serious transport only makes sense if you have a small fortune in the bank for R & M

A younger bike (such as the mentioned Bandit) is a better proposition to improve your financial situation over time :headbang:

That's what I've heard too - thanks for the heads up on other forums too!

http://www.k-bikes.com also seems like a good one. Thanks!
