guna splash out this week and buy me some sweet new gloves as the dirt bike ones iv been using just dont even come close to cutting it
thinking berik sbk's but am wanting peoples input on what race style gloves you have/ like / dont like
Like helmets, they're all slightly different shapes. Buy the ones that fit.
I've had Joe Rocket, Dainese, Rev-it. They've all been good.
Alpinestars dont fit. Five fit ok-ish.
Ive got some Held Hashiru's. Best money I've ever spent on gloves...

My Teknics are only starting to show signs of better days after having them for 5 years. Not bad since they've been crashed in 3 or 4 times.

Ive tried quite a few gloves , and i reckon the best ones ive had by far are the Alpinestars 365 gloves ! Bloody expensive though but a "jack of all trades" glove.

Tried on the berik sbk's and the sbk2's today. Actually liked the 2s better and they half the price. Both had a flimsy lookin lil velcro adjuster thingy on the wrist tho, wasnt much into that. The seach continues

Race style gloves (or gear) wont cut the mustard in terms of practicality (or safety) ... in the day to day winter riding use. And even in summer ... leave a lot to be desired in terms of protection when you really need it. And there is a good chance you will need it.
Some even go as far as to say ... race style gear is for posers.

interesting points FJ, will definitely take them into consideration,

Put it this way ... is the tar seal any softer in summer .. than winter .. ??? You don't slide far on chip seal anyway.
Your body ... your choice.
But make the right choice the first time. Scar tissue is a bitch to get rid of.
And chicks love scars ... right .. ??

how are they in summer, too hot? My leather alpinestars? no, they are perfect, think they are meant for summer use hence why they are so cold in winter!

That I understand. I can wear summer gauntlets for most of the year in balmy Pukekohe. My Dri-rider winter gloves are warmer (obviously) but feel like oven gloves so don't get used much.

This is actually an important safety feature. During a crash your gloves can get ripped off, this little velcro strap helps lock the glove on at the wrist.
I can’t say whether racing gloves can prevent most injuries but what I do know for certain is:
you fracture scaphoids if your palms grab
your outside fingers break easily
hard knuckle protectors with minimal backing will break metacarpals if driven into the top of your hand
having both hands in casts isn’t fun. Cutting one off day one less so but infinitely preferable to needing help to wipe your own arse.

Still not following you FJ
Protection from the cold is not the only protection you need.
If your 3 mm thick Pakistani leathers are the only thing between you and whatever road surface you come into contact with (in the literal sense) ... you will feel every individual stone you slide over. The increased tear resistance over textiles has been claimed ... but tear resistance wont stop broken bones as you hit things before you stop moving. (don't ask me how I know)
But the good news is ... in the event you are involved in an injury accident (you being the one injured) wearing your one piece leathers ... your leather suit can be easily removed. The medic's immediate action is to just cut it off.
Even a simple bone break ... off it comes. (So wear clean undies)
If both your hands are injured in a crash/off ... you will find out who your friends are in a very short space of time. About the time you first need a pee ..

Ah, so not specifically about gloves then. Dunno about that.
Sketchy dude, for the bucks you were gonna spend you can get good ones. If you want upped protection some things to look for:
best abrasion resistance and seam strength
secure fit
scaphoid sliders or material that doesn’t grab in the palm
sliders or material that doesn’t grab on the outside of the glove
buddy strapped 3rd & 4th fingers
full top cover protector or partial cover with heavy backing and reinforcement
Ulna and Radius cover
some that fit the bill; A* GP-Pro, Knox Biomech, Knox 'Droids, RS Taichi GP-Evo, Held Phantom, RevIt Apex... heaps of others I'm sure. Good luck.
