Hey All,
Old time member just returned. After being hit by a drunk driver about 2 years ago i stopped riding my trusty GSX250 (as it was totaled) , i'm now looking at the new LAMS approved bikes and came across the GSR600U, sadly i can't find any traces of the GSR600U but only the GSR600, I was wondering if the U was just a restriction enforced on the bike to lower the KW output on it and if it was possible to get this restriction done at a suzuki shop as there is one GSR i've found that i've taken a fancy to.
Any replies are welcome (hell even suggestions for different bikes!)

Whatever restriction fitted on any motorcycle after manufacture ... will not change the stated model of that motorcycle. Nor will it alter any listed specs for that bike anywhere. A sworn oath in front of a judge ... or a declaration written in blood ... will not be enough to change the official standpoint of the particular bike model.

A shame, because i can't find any GSR600U (or maybe i haven't looked hard enough)

The GSR600U is on the LAMS list and I doubt you'd be able to get a GSR600 changed so that it becomes LAMS compliant.

Figured, time to buy a GSR400.

Any particular reason you want a GSR400/600? The only people selling GSR400s at the moment seem to be Coleman's, and at $8,000 they're going for a truly ludicrous amount.
There should be heaps of suitable bikes for you at half that price.

Prob equally as hard to find/ as expensive but you could try the fzr400/honda/kawasaki equivalents? May open up the field ever so slightly at least
Were you going for an inline four specifically?

Not specifically, i just sort of fell inlove with the bike on first sight.

Whilst not condoning, breaking the Law in any way. If you were to ride a GSf600, and NOT the U suffixed one.
Would any lawman, really be able to tell the difference?

A rego check via radio/computer and a look at the LAMs list. I'm sure he's happy to risk the $400 riding outside licence conditions fine.

The rego check is obvious. But with only one letter difference between legal and Illegal, I was wondering.

One numerical digit out on the locked-on readout ... means either walking or riding home.
Actual actions of the officer depends greatly on what attracted that officers attention to the rider in the first place. In such cases ... it's just often another charge to add to the list ...
A bored cop following him doing a random rego check .. would come back as owned by a restricted licence rider. That in itself may raise red flags in the mind of the suspicious plod.
Getting caught may only result in a few months of "Forbidden to drive" anyway ... (and the fine of course)

How long till you get your full? Its its not long, I'd look at going on another bike in the short term and save up for a nice new gsxr600? Even a gsx250 etc
