Well the ones with trailers and who do not use indicators!
Thanks to one of them i wrote our gage off on tuesday....he was flying along at 100 i was at the same or even less then he decides to stop without indicating, so i had no chance of stopping and swerved over to the right and back again but with the speed i went to far got the gravel.
And of course being a 4wd subaruru the other 2 tyres gripped and i was sling shotted over to the poor station wagon on the other side then spun and was rear ended by a van full of people!
And all this while i had my 2 babies in the back... oh the bruises will go away and the police says my story matches up with the eye witnesses i.e. the poor guy i hit! he tried to say he indicated and was in his paddock when i hit what a load of toss pot! well kids are fine broke the booster seat i got wiplash we will be fine now as long as the other peole get their cars fixed all is good...only fair! since i played pinball on em...if that old guy wiggles out of it.....oh yes i am in morning for the car..but i have my other cage and the male has his bikes we are fine!...sorry if i insulted any farmers but i had to vent! :violin:

Glad to hear you're OK.
Good thing you have a witness, as the law usually goes if you hit someone from behind or are following too close to avoid them/ stop in an emergency, then you are at fault.

I thought the objective was to be able to stop safely in the length of road visible to you - no matter what speed you are doing. Whether or not this guy was a tosser who didn't indicate, you failed to brake to a safe speed or otherwise avoid hitting him when he stopped. If he was travelling at 100kph and decided to turn into a driveway I find it hard to believe he had not slowed prior to doing so because I would imagine he would have rolled and/or jack-knifed the trailer if he'd tried. If you had to swerve to the other side of the road to avoid hitting him from behind (which would have definitely been your fault), then you were obviously following too close. And it sounds like you over-corrected if you ended up in the gravel, no point blaming the car. You are bloody lucky in so many ways - I'm amazed you didn't kill yourself or your children, nor any innocent motorists you encountered on the other side of the road.
Sorry if I am lacking in sympathy here, but I really feel you contributed a lot to this accident. If you had been travelling at a speed where you could brake and avoid something stopping suddenly in your lane (or a dog running out or something falling off the back of a truck), then you would not have hit another motorist nor been hit yourself. Even if the guy did stop suddenly without indicating, you were following him and had a responsibility to avoid an accident.
I can't believe everyone has dished out sympathy instead of a lecture here. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this accident and who gets charged. I will be amazed if you aren't charged with careless driving.

Feisty, I'm glad you and yours are all okay (bar the bruises/whiplash - which are bad enough) but I generally agree with what Beemer says. As motorists following other motorists, we have to take responsibility for our own behaviour, and our own following distances. If we don't think we'd have time to stop were the vehicle in front of us to behave erratically, then we've followed too closely. I know how easy it is to follow too closely (and am often guilty of it myself), but please be aware that it's not ONLY the fault of the truck driver, but you're probably partially in the wrong too.
But like I say, I AM glad that you're all okay.
Stay safe people. Observation skills/following distances etc that we observe on the bike could probably do with being applied in the cars too (I know I've become a more 'aware' driver due to my short experience biking).

That was your fault you should place your vehicle so you will be able to easily out brake any vehicle in front of you. Especially a ute with a trailer.
At 100km the 2 second rule = 30 meters. If not sure slow down.
I always follow that rule on a 100 kg motorcycle, I would suggest giving even more room in a 1.5 ton cage with my kids in the back.
What if that truck had to stop for an emergency? Say a wounded Motorcyclist on the road??? You would have driven into that farmer and our buddy on the road would not be in a good state.

I commiserate with you, Feisty BUT - as others have said, the law will see it as your fault almost regardless of circumstance. In a nose-to-tail, the following driver is deemed to have been too close blah blah. Still sucks tho

I've got a sharp knife and know how to use it. I reckon we should have a big BBQ and piss up next time. If the animals are on public road then they are public property, i.e. free food! :devil2: :drinknsin

Hm. Actually , if it's not a State Highway, odds are the farmers pay more than anyone for the road, through their local body rates. Tolerance folks, what goes round comes round. Doubt any farmer WANTS to hold traffic up, but the beasties still have to get across the road. Its not really such a big deal, a few minutes delay. Next time , maybe wish the cockie a good day, and mention how bad the weather's been (always correct, the weather is always bad for farmers )? He may turn out to be quite a decent chap.

Yea, if the cockies have the deciency to put someone 500 meters each side of the animal to slow traffic down. However some of them just carry on like nothing is happening and we come along at 100km/h (at least) and have to take emergeny counter measures to stop riding up the arse of a flock of sheep??? Stuff that! Also ever tried cornering at high speed with animal turds all over the road? :motu:

Sounds like you weren't paying attention. I'm sorry your babies got hurt, but to me it sounds like you are the main contributor to your crash. Could easily have been a fatal - crossing the centreline out of control (in a 4x4 car no less) and having a head on crash with some other people, who it would appear were also not paying attention to what was going on in front of them. I think you'll be lucky not to be charged with Dangerous Driving.

You're right -
Feisty:
With two kids in the back - you should have thought about braking distances.
If you were still carrying enough speed to spin across the road - you were either too fast or that Subaru has no brakes......
Hard luck though. Hope the kids weren't too scared by it all.

Glad you're all ok Feisty.
I only dislike one 'farmer'. He's the one that left his gate open recently. A gate on a blind bend. A gate that normally helped keep a young bullock safe in it's paddock. A bullock that decided to take make best use of the fact the gate was open and to take a run around said blind bend with a Blackbird doing about 90 in the opposite direction.
I love Honda's dual combined braking system.
New pants please.
