Hey guys. I've had my new zx6r for about a month now and am thinking of getting into stunting.
Before I go any further I realise a month is not a long time and I will be waiting awhile before practising anything to extreme as I need to get used to the bike.
Thats said I have been watching tons of stunting videos and love the idea of it. I've already been doing a few power wheelies and enjoy it! Good adrenaline.
I come from a skateboarding background so am quite used to the idea of tricks balancing etc. It's kind of a similar concept with the tricks etc and the progression of tricks.
Anyway, I don't wanna screw up my new bike. Its cosmetically fresh and I realise falling off will be a matter if when rather than if.. For this reason I'm quite keen to get myself a cage kit sometime before I start properly. Anyone know where I could get one in NZ? They sell em in states but shipping etc is getting it done local a better choice?
Also any advice for someone starting out? Cheers Guys!

Odds are, unless you source something custom, or that someone is selling privately, you're not going to find one in NZ.
Also be aware that your ground clearance will be reduced, so it will affect trying to ride it like a sportsbike.

As will the weight and associated balance. With and without the cage will be two different bikes.
A stunter that doesn't want to take risks ... how unusual ...

A cage is more to protect the engine than the cosmetics I think. Best mod for stunting may be to go out to your shed and kick it off its sidestand, then you won't be so scared of dropping it :bleh:

Cheers all for the replies!
Drew know any good spots in Wellington to practice? I've heard the old mitsi factory in Porirua is great, massive open space and empty on weekends. Only trouble is there is traffic during the week.. I've got uni break coming up soon and really want to do a bit of practice during the couple weeks I get off need somewhere I can go during the day on a weekday.
Cheers Ghostrider any idea how much shipping costs for one of the kits? I been looking on Sickinnovations apparantly they do a good crash cage..
Also any advice on learning first staggered stand up wheelies vs. sitting down ones? I've had a look online seems like most people think the staggered style is the best to learn from as you can see over the handlebars and the balance point is a little lower.. Thoughts on this?
Cheers all !
There is a new business park, subdivision on Alexander road in Upper Hutt. That's about the best spot I know of.

shipping shouldn't be anymore than $100usd? if you get sick innovations cage make sure its the 2nd generation cause the orginal cages stick out and you will smash ure shins everyday in the same place.staggered is ure best bet. change ure brake pads to HH sintergrip and put sum good brake fluid in like castrol srf run about 10-15psi in the rear clutch it up and sorta hold the throttle in 1 place and use the rear brake 2 control the hight of ure wheelie.if you start chopping the throttle that will make ure bike wobble.

Wonder if feathering the throttle at motorway speeds, rather than cooking the brake, will be causing the RF to move about a bit.

Checked out that road Drew saw that construction sub division but it is all fenced off unfortunately.. There was a little thing beside it however a big square loops with tall grass looked like a nice spot. They were doing a Roadsafe Course there though so will have to go next week

Advanced bike handling manoevers?
I gave some sit downs today a quick go was sitting at about 20 k's and then pull the clutch in rev till about 8 then dump the clutch. Started off doing very small ones but gradually got them a bit higher and longer. Still feels weird though if I get a really high one a panic a lil and chop the throttle which probably isnt to nice for the suspension. but slowly getting used to the feeling of the wheel lifting and accelerating on the way down to smoothen it out..
How bad is this for your clutch by the way? Should I give the clutch a rest period after awhile?

It's quite hard to explain what I want to convey in writing, but here goes.
Clutching it up is the way to go, but don't pull the clutch in so it disengages completely. Roll the throttle on like you want to accelerate away, and dip the clutch just a little bit to get a rev jump.
Jason (gohstrider) can launch the wheel as you're trying to do, but it takes HEAPS of control.
What you're searching for a the oh so sweet sound, of the revs jumping about 2000rpm. Resulting in a controlled rise from the front wheel. Would love to come out and show you the little bit I know, but it's just not on the cards in the near future with my schedule.

Cheers for that will try that technique out next week.. I guess you will be going faster but the rise of the front wheel will be much more predictable which will be cool.
All good man would be sweet to head out with you guys at some point. Is always easier to learn when you got someone who knows the ways!
Can't wait for next week

Cheers mate might get a cage in a couple months if I start to take this thing seriously. I'm Guessing they're not really permanent so you can take them off for a track day or a long range ride?

They're removeable. But I'd only ever take it off for a track day.

These cages don't look that hard to make. If you have trouble getting one imported give us a yell and I might be able to help you Tig Weld something custom up

Why'd you'd fuck your road bike is beyond me, (and you will fuck it, regardless of adding a cage)
Just buy this thing and keep your ZX6 as a nice road bike http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=590796453
