Hey! Just bought a 2005 Fireblade. Private sale. I owner from new. 8000k. X 2 services in that 8 year period. Last service was 2010, since which it has only done 400k. Do I need to do anything before I start to use it, such as change the oil, brake fluid, brake pads? Any advice from more knowledgeable bikers than I would be much appreciated. Cheers! Trooper.

Only 400 km in three years..what a waste.

If it was me, I would change all the fluids, that way you know where you stand with everything. At the very least, the brake fluid should be replaced. You should be able to tell if the pads need replacing. Chain might need a clean and lube as well.

I would also check the battery, if its been sitting around doing nothing for three years it might not be too flash.

Enjoy

Good score.

If it was mine I would change all fluids, oil, filter, brake fluids and engine coolant.

Then I'd thrash the shit out of it to run in in properly.

And I'd convert it into a naked .........

8000k, it will just be run in. Change oil & filter, coolent and brake fluids then ride it.

Honda Hamilton are a good bunch for any advice., go see Grant & Grant.

Good advice so far but I'd change the tyres too. You can check the age of the tyres (Google it) if they're over three years old I'd replace them.

Doesn't matter how much tread there is if the rubber has the friction coefficient of a plank of wood.

Good point! Be a shame to do all the fluids etc and then ditch at the first spirited corner.

Make sure you have a spare key.

I have a habit of always replacing all the fluids and checking things like cables, measuring rotor thickness, and generally giving a bike a real good going over when I get a new one, regardless of what servicing etc the last owner says it had done.

You never know whether everything they say has been done really has been or not, so I do it to be sure.
Might cost you $500 and a few hours to do things like check valve clearances, replace oil, fluids, filters, spark plugs etc, but it gives you a much higher chance of trouble free motoring moving forward

Tires will most likely be completely fucked. Do a burnout on them and replace. Make sure you take a photo and post it up here though.

Then I'd thrash the shit out of it to run in in properly.

Followed by an engine freshen up when it starts buring oil like an '80s Mitsubishi.

Sounds like the carbs need a clean to me. Blocked pilot jets present exactly like you describe...Or at least, what I can read of what you describe.

Where is best place get carb cleaner.
I need get compressor so maybe wait, and work on fairing.
I but compressor on laybuy, was in super cheap catalog.
279.00 got some paint attachments.
great news then , am kinda half terrified riding it to be honest.
Other part cant wait.
My tires shagged both ends,
Look like slicks, esp front so id say seen the track.
Whats good front 16 inch tire.
whould like sticky one ,as bike can flick around , rear ?.
Like look some continental.
but doubt make 16 inch front.
Strada,s vfr 750 had seem grippy.
