Three of us went for a wander Sunday, I wasn't to sure what it'd be like, it's been known to be a touch wet & rutted after a decent period of rain :).
Well, it was awesome, not to sure on timing, but it felt a solid 1/2 hour loop through the Bush Highway, along whitegate & back, those tracks which were easy as in summer with some water are just plain fun, there's been a heap of work in drainage & track layout, so it's not full of water holes & soft spots, enough to keep life interesting, but nothing to worry you, it's slippery enough that you can't relax, but good traction if you look around.
We tried three little pigs & was fun, though ended up bailing at the very end, a decent off camber hill covered in roots had us running scared.
Did a chunk of the Root 100, from the where the bush highway comes out, it was slippery & where I headbutted a tree, then later on dogged the bike down one piece, definitely challenging enough, but there was not to much hauling of bikes going on, the sections where the root 100 had dug out the creek were restored after a few months silt buildup making a few pieces more manageable again, but a decent jump up from the three little pigs in difficultly albeit without the nasty hill, overall harder than it was root 100 time.
Then we did a section towards the end of whitegate ( hard left as you get to the end of the trees ), nice slippery downhill & an uphill that if you didn't have momentum was challenging ( I was lucky & got up first go on my bike + a friends who was not having fun ), struggled to walk up & down due to being a bit slick. I seem to recall a 6 day 300 not moving whilst full throttle 4th & not digging at all. It was deceiving, the hard bit looked the end of the bottom piece, but that was the start, the top was hard & slippery, maybe not as steep but longer & consequently more tricky, I was barely at walking speed on my friends bike by the end.
All up a mint day, with a nice variety from fun but not technically tricky, to stuff that really challenged me anyway, lots of new tracks have gone in linking previous pieces together & there were quite a few tracks we didn't get to.
Highly recommended.
Oh it'll take awhile to clean your bike, I was 40 minutes water blasting mine :).
