hi guys. I just bought a damaged xt660x 2007 model.
the forks have been snapped clean off.

Im looking at replacing them with new fork tubes from the UK at about $380.

another option is to use wr450 or crf250 forks and triples.
some minor mods would be required to do this, like the stoppers/ign lock location and wheel spacers. also maybe a plate for the brakes.

so for around the same price i could upgrade to USD (maybe a little more as I may need stiffer springs due to the 660's extra weight.

has anyone got any clues on doing this conversion?
do you think the 5mm offset between the xtx and say the wr would make a difference in handling?
the actual height wont be an issue as its only about 30mm difference so i could just slide the forks up a little...

thanks, Phil.

Offset makes a huge difference.

Is it +5mm or -5mm

What damage to your chassis was done by the impact that removed the forks?

I'm doing a USD conversion at the moment on my XTR.... "well... will be when Linten ever gets my forks done- only had them for like
3 weeks before easter".. He's revalveing them to enduro specs / heavyer springs / shortening to 900mm & reduceing the travel to
250mm "no use haveing more travel than ground clearance"

2000 CR250 forks with 2003 triple clamps as it has rubber mounted bar clamps..
The CR has the same bottom bearing as the XTR/XTX but you need a 47/30/12 bearing for the top..
I could not find in NZ so got 2 from overseas they are a bit of a odd ball as far as inner & outer
race sizes go in one bearing...
Other than that they are a bolt in fit... stops, not looked at them yet..prob build up with weld and
grind to size..

Just got a Ohlins S46DR1 shock from OTR in Germany for a tad under $700NZ on my door step...

OTR has complete USD conversion kits for the XTR/XTX/XTZ ten clamps/bearings/new WR450 forks etc
