These were developed for bicycles, but I can see some application on a bike.. be it for racing or just riding in general..
http://www.bikerumor.com/2013/05/24/recon-instruments-creates-the-cycling-version-of-google-glass

Imagine having GPS in your eye? Or accelerometer readings.. race positions, laptimes, etc..
You could even use something like waze or latitude on a ride so you know where people are (specifically the TEC if you are lead)..

I have an app called "CarOO" which runs video all the time, in 5 min segments, and if it detects an "issue" (or you do) it (or you manually) trigger it, and it saves xx mins around that time.. handy in those crazy traffic situations - better than a go pro.

I'd prefer it was built into the visor.. but since most of us wear glasses/sunnies anyway, it would work as it is..

I find that maps are hard to read at 100kmh..

I've read somewhere in the last 2 weeks that people who wear google glasses are called glassholes.

I can see these as being idea for those on push bikes, they take no notice of whats around them anyway, so the distraction of a small screen would probably fill their tiny minds anyways.
But on a motorbike, that small spot the screen appears in, could be that spot you need to be aware of something that going to kill you,
No room for asny type of distraction when riding in my opinion, these would just see an increase in the statistics .
The concept is good, but the application I think has much to be desired.

Have a look at a map BEFORE you go then forget what you planned and rely on "ooh, I wonder where this goes......" :bleh::lol:

If google glass sales take off in NZ i think i would be seriously worried about the increased distraction of drivers on our roads.
So this thread points out there would be a version helpful for bikers but think of every pleb behind the wheel that are already driving round staring at their crotch now and soon can look like they are staring at the road but actually watching you tube or god knows what else in a little screen just next to their line of vision with google glass...

I think the whole idea is already dead in the water. Seen a good write up on one of the tech blogs, the guy wanted to love them but ended up hating them and experienced headaches etc from the 24/7 wifi transmitter on them.
Then there is a similar system on Yanks new fighter jet that is causing issues as their is too much info.
I don't think kiwi motorists are ready for these yet and as a wearer of normal prescription glasses I'll tell you the novelty will soon be outweighed by various nuisance factors.

With you on this one. But then, I'm from before the ' If it beeps, must have ' generation.

Probably more likely has headaches from trying to make his eyes do separate things. Apache pilots have the same problem getting used to their huds and then again if they're in the cockpit for hours.

Anyone that is happy to have a continuous wifi transmitter only centimeters away from their brain probably deserves their brain tumor.

Some of us have to wear glasses anyway, don't really need to look any dorkier thanks Google.

Also why not 'Google Goggles'? The alliteration is epic.

I prefer the simple view of the road and my surroundings, and the great sound of my bike .

That's why I ride.

+1 :niceone:

All of those products present the same two problems, a blind spot and a constant distraction from the road.
...I'd rather focus on survival than a low res screen. (Totally with Tipper on this one...Much prefer listening to the "music" of my V4 in full song, while enjoying the simple pleasure's of the ride)

...but non the less, the tech is very cool..I can understand the appeal

I think it is an excellent idea .. I can see it now .. up pops a thing that says "You have mail"

You open it up and it's an e-mailed ticket from the Traffic Officer just behind you ...

You don't have to stop - he doesn't have to stop ... no aggression ..

Then you can do your internet banking and pay the fine without even having to stop the bike ...

What a great idea ... the cop can also get an instant receipt to say the fine has been paid .. and if the fine is not paid, then he can press a button and turn off your engine

What a great world we live in ..

If it could tie into the bike to show speedo, temp, rev counter that would be awesome. Perhaps even tie the GPS into the speed limit and flash if you're speeding. Would save the aggro of having to keep checking the clocks when riding around town...

youre right. Having to look at anything that isnt right in front of your face is such a hassle.

2 bikes of mine don't have lights on the speedos...not that I care enough to do anything about swapping them out (there are no bulbs!).

To be honest though its kind of fun guessing how many knots you're doing while passing cops at night. I guess that thrill could be replaced by watching the Lion King in your Skully while wheeling past cops at night? :niceone:

I'm to tight to fork out for one or the glasses, but I would give them a go later down the line.

How much info you pay attention to is your choice. Knowing how much is to much without crashing should help clean the gene pool a little. Same deal with the music that some people can't handle while riding. No problem. Just don't listen to it and leave everyone else alone...

So here I am, cruising along at 100kph, got my mp3 player, my ebook, my eye glasses, my tinted visor, my main visor, can't see the road but hey I got me google glasses too. Now where the fuck are the bars, they're round here somewhere.

With some clever code this could point out potential dangers before you get to them.

Yes it may make people more complacent, but it would be able to detect potential hazards much sooner than you can.

It could over lay infra-red imagery and point out hidden obstacles in the dark.

safety applications are endless.
