I guess I should check in here. New member from Florida. I'm heading your way in November so I figured reading Kiwibiker will prep me for Real! Live! Kiwis!

Bikes I have: an old Yamaha RT1B (my favorite). An old-ish kawasaki ZRX1100 for touring, a klr250 dirt bike that burns oil. A new-ish Husky 510. I don't need this many bikes but they aren't worth much $ so I keep them.

I've been writing for a moto-mag over here, achieving limited success. Seems like I get in 5-6 times a year. It's stressful but at least the pay is bad. Hopefully I can mooch a Victory cruiser for 3 weeks of NZ touring. I'll post up the New Zealand touring story on Kiwibiker when it publishes. Maybe start a trip-thread/blog thing here if it's not too annoying.

The wife and I are shaking things up a bit, I'm 55, time to get a move on.

Giving this a bump as per bio-request. Not much to add except trying for 4 weeks in NZ then wander over to Oz and have a look around. This is my year to screw up the easy life I've spent 40 years building.

Yay, awesome idea. I would say 1 week north and 3 weeks south island.

Would be great if you made a blog or thread about your touring experience. I world definitely read it

I'll be there if I have to walk down. Polaris has bought Indian and is making a huge Burt Munro tie-in to their new models.

better look us up when you get south, like i said in ya other post i can lend you gear to camp at the rally, that way you don't miss out on the atmosphere and i have it on good authority they are using local talent for bands again this year instead of the crap they brought down from auckland a couple of years ago, enjoy your trip

Florida? Oh. Well, we grow lots of oranges up here but unfortunately have lots of corners. And forests, and sinuous coastline roads with twisty up & down roads in between. Fishing is good, weather is more clement than that other island but the pies are not as good.
Have a great adventure, any time is good but now is always the best.

Were you in a TT movie? Be nice to see a road with a turn in it.

Welcome Jjgres,

Sounds like a plan - love the Vision too

Don't cut your time too short here, many a time I've seen that happen, and since we are so far away.....

Anyway, there's a room and beer fridge available at the end of the Forgotten World Highway if you need one, Google "Matiere" - as far in to the sticks as ya can go before you start coming out

Cheers

No, it's a replica with their new motor. They ran it but were not trying for any records. I saw the repli-liner at Daytona this year, pretty nice. All promotional stuff.

We met two Kiwis on the TAT. DR650/Yamaha 6-something. Keith and Brian. From Hamilton and Auckland I think. We plan to look them up. I have their email somewhere.
