So wanna play Tag in Southland province ... i'll start then.:headbang:
Rules if you must.
#1 - Find the tag and reproduce the elements of the photo (as best as possible). The first person to post and claim a found tag gets to place the next tag once confirmed by previous tag poster.
Confirm A.S.A.P as others are itching to ride, find, and TAG.
If you get a tag, but somebody else posts their correct picture first, you still win as you got off your arse and discovered a bit about your province whilst enjoying a ride on your motorsickle, but, you do not get to place the next tag.
#2 - Take the tag to a new location remaining in the Southland boundries of the sign posted District council , get a good clear photo, and post it here, sheesh it really is easy.
A clue subtle or otherwise to give hints to other players to figure where the tag may be loctated is optional, but does help the game to move on. Tags of interesting locations or things, maybe with a bit of history are good.
Tagger or claimer may like to add some brief history or notes about the claimed tag so other can learn a little more about the wonderful Southland province full of hidden gems.
#3 - Tag must be a) findable and b) may be placed on a dirt road if a street bike can make it. Maintained gravel is OK, but make sure to let folks know that gravel is required to get to your tag as some riders are not confident on gravel. We don't want to exclude those who don't like to get dirty C safe to visit and take photo i.e on road markings is not safe.
#4 - You gotta ride to play this game of course, collected recent file photos usually on return from claiming are acceptable, the game is about riding and discovery, use them to keep the game moving if you darn well must.
#5 - Your bike has to be in the TAG picture
# - Ride safe
So first one

Yes, real bugger of the other site problems where similar game was being played, let's hope they get it sorted, meanwhile we can still play tag in Southland.

If you know where the old transport yard is back up the road towards winton, you should call in there and ask to have a look around the big shed. It has some great old photos and whatnot of the area going back many years. Theres a big tunnel house outside the shed these days, next to the road. Be prepared to drink lots of tea and eat heaps of scones though.:msn-wink:

Yar! just in the nick of time, only 130 sleeps to next year.
The blue 1955 Morris Minor is on East Road heading into Invercargill just before the dead centre of town ( cemetary) and is a testament to English quality steel, how long would a Holden have lasted, really.
I recall a burgundy Austin on the poles as a kid when visiting Chernobyl South in the 60's and 70's as a sign that we were nearly there, it's a long way in an old Vauxhall.:(
The blue Morrie always reminds me of the similar one we drove about in as teens on the piss apparently. It was a split window (54) with wavy arm indicators and powerfull 850 motor. We got it up to 95 MPH ( off the clock) on a very shaky jaunt down Perkins Hill ( Mataura) with it in nuetral, and managed to negotiate the corner at the bottom missing the cemetary. As powerful as it was it could not climb back up to the Hommer tunnel when coming out, and so we reversed it after lightening the load of a few full flaggons to empty
So before leaving Invervegas tag i'll leave you with this aptly depressing song

Yes, if one were to be riding on slow down Onslow Street Invercargill they will spot this redundant looking street which is in fact a bicycle park for teaching kids the road rules before they hit the real roads. Glen Cockroft who most of us over 40 will recall was a cop when they did traffic control and Police were keeping crime down, he instigated this training park.

The picture taken outside the old Mataura rail station, a real gem and I certainly hope powers that be don't bulldoze it as a lot of historic buildings have succumbed to, there is not many of these left in N.Z.
Memories of living in the town as a kid revolved around our backdoor playground "the river". I can remember the falls being blasted with dynamite to help ease the water flow bottleneck at the bridge after major floods.
Plenty of local history, famous for it's trout fishing, Cardigan Bay, industry. My grandad was king pin for 8 years ... all in book " The City of The Falls" at a library or in brief here...

Yes Cross Road runs off the Old Coach road to Dunedin found turning off the Dacre corner. That farm was pioneer in the days all the area was tussock ( Pebbly Hills being close to Tussock Creek ..funnily enuf) and developed to prime sheep farming in conjunction with Southland Frozen Meat Company ( freezing works).
"On Waitoru Downs, the land was ploughed about loin deep and two tons of lime to the acre were sown following a
fallow of about 18 months before sowing turnips. "
Anyway the history of Waitoru Downs is that is it was one of the late William Hunt's. So who you ask no? Yes..the fark was he...well here...
