I was watching a doco on TV about a maximum security prison and they were talking to a guy that robbed a store, his car wouldn't start so he jumped into a car with three people in and drove off. He was caught and sentence to 3 consecutive life sentences for kidnapping.

After that the news came on where a recidivist drunk driver that had killed three people in different car crashes while drunk was getting an ankle bracelet that could detect alcohol as a bail condition was not to consume alcohol for six months.

I knew our system was fucked but that is just piss weak.

(best Leslie Nielsen voice)

Well. There's good people and bad people. There are good crimes and bad crimes. There are people in funny wigs and batman capes. They get thrown into the mix and get as confused as hell as they each interpret the law. You're Welcome.

presumably the first story is out of some southern state in the US (there is no such sentence in NZ as three consecutive life terms)

was the bail condition story from NZ too? I doubt it because I dont think that technology exists here. I am not sure that even the car ignition alcohol interlock technology exists in NZ.

Assuming I am correct (and please, prove me incorrect) then its hardly "our" system is it?

This has to be among the most pathetic case's latlely. 8yr,10months for selling his own baby for sex. An automatic right to apply for parole after 1/3d of the sentence. How the hell can any man do something like that to any child, much less his own?

Another pathetic case is of the two men on the west coast who escape jail after hunting down and attacking a tourist using a hammer.

Yes the first is out of the states, Araziona I think it was.

But no you are wrong about the second and so was I, he has killed 4 people not 3.

Again "our" system is piss weak, you should know this being a lawyer.

yeah bro. your tax dollars hard at work. i'm going to get my fourth uni degree and new home gym set up arriving next week. SKY tv is free, we have underfloor heating, and my cell is worth as much as a house in auckland. three meals a day, i eat better inside than what that bitch at home cooks, every time i get out i give her a bash and get back in, easy as. the dumb bitch has 12 kids, only 5 are mine, but that's cool 'cos she creams 1600 a week on the benny and another 800 in child support, and she don't need to feed em dry noodles for breakfast anymore cos they're gonna get fed good at school.

THANKS KIWI TAXEES!

According to the article, their boss was pleased they didn't get jail time as he would have lost two good workers. He has his priorities sorted.

It must be terrifying to feel a hammer smashing into your head.
