Anyone know if you can get a cert for a turbo running a dump pipe straight out of the side of the lower fairing?

Similar to this...

Certs for bikes seem to be a bit of a grey area here in NZ.
Should I just fit the turbo and hope that the wof guy doesn't notice it? hahaha

iirc, dump pipes have to be fed back into the main exhaust stream

Not talking about wastegate screamer pipes bro. Im running a internal wastegate so its coming out with the main exhaust anyway.

Talking about a main exhaust which exits straight from the fairing like this...

Apparently its not a hell of alot louder than a stock muffler which I find hard to believe. Saw a GSXR1000 with a dump and wastegate screamer on trademe a few years back which had certs for the road.

Should only be about how loud it is, not where it exits.
Mufflers reduce noise by cooling and slowing the exhaust gas, dissipating the energy. Turbos extract the energy using it to spin the compressor so the noise is reduced.

Wot he says. My Z1RTC wasn't that noisy...and there were no baffles at all in the tail pipe. Back pressure is no good.

Back when turbos first appeared on trucks, late '60's early '70's, they often just had straight pipes and were no noisier than a non turbo - the more efficient the turbo, the more energy extracted and the less noise.

However, here is the relevant clause from the eVIRM....

Mandatory equipment

1. A vehicle is not fitted with an exhaust system that includes a means of sound reduction (Note 1) (Note 6).

I doubt if a turbo is considered a means of sound reduction.

Might just make up a dump and see if it gives me any issues. If it does, easy enough to fab up a muffler and pipe
