There are also some bag models that come with a bra. That device is more or less permanently attached over the tank and the bag then clips on and off that.
We had one of those once on an FJR1300 we hired in Australia. It worked well. I can't remember the manufacturer's name.

Not sure what your budget is but this gear is great.

I've got the "tank bra" and the 10l bag and a mate has the 20l bag. We both rate 'em. Bone dry in torrential rain, easy to use. Not sure what else I can say - I've had mine for about 3 years now (not used every day admittedly) but it's great - either on the tank or the pillion seat. I think the 20l has a shoulder strap so you can carry it off the bike. The 10l doesn't (or mine doesn't)
Oh yeah, I am not affiliated with them in any way :-)

Givi do a tank lock system, I have the 14litre (expandable to 18) one. A ring bolted to the fuel tank bolts and bank has a mechanism to clip onto the tank.
I have found it brilliant and doesn't scratch the tank either like Magnets potentially can.
www.motomail.co.nz sell them.

Oh feck - wish I'd seen that earlier....
I have a solution now but not thrilled with it. Cheap / small oxford strap on bag fits OK and will do for now.
The proper triumph one - I'm being cunning as I found I can buy the base cheap but the bag is non stock. However I can adapt an existing bag to it by rejigging the zip.
That would have been way better... argh....
