View Full Version : Motorcycle tow bar for a towing motorcycle?

Hey everyone,
So I've just been thinking about how I'll transport a race bike in the future.
I've seen a couple of massive bikes with a tow bar with the exception of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1zZdRvKZG4) and that also has a trailer. Has anyone seen where to buy a tow bar for a bike or has anyone made one before?
Also, can a bike support a smallish bike trailer with a smaller bike (FXR150) on it?
I would like to avoid having to use a car or truck.
Any suggestions would be wicked,
Cheers!

You can pull a fairly hefty load with a bike, we used to get 8 bales of hay on a trailer behind an old AG175, or posts and wire. And it wasn't a flat farm.:oi-grr:

"You must take extra care when towing a trailer or another motorcycle (which must be mechanically disabled)" - Does that mean it's broken or just off?

And speed restriction may apply if no trailer.. Anyway just get a mate to swing by with a van on way to ruapuna and buy the beer later

Speed restriction applies regardless of trailer or no.
If trailer < 1/2 weight of bike = 90kph
If trailer >= 1/2 weight of bike = 40kph
No trailer = 30kph

trevor's bike is a 1800cc from memory and he zips about with a gn125 on the back
with no issues.
three things that you would have to consider, IMO is will the clutch / gearing be
suitable for towing without losing economy nor ringing the balls of it.
swing arm? I guess the modern alloy ones with do ok, but at least with a steel
one you could beef it up.
not only are you going to have to haul your bike plus gear and spares and fuel
theres a bit more weight..

I believe that applies to towing a motorcycle with a rope. Not towing a trailer with a motorcycle on it.

It's Trevor, he was my BHS tester. He tows the little GN125 (which I used for my BHS LOL) with a big Truimph.
