Am looking to do a perhaps monthly Saturday adventure ride, there are some other organised rides but unfortunately they are general on a Sunday (being a good church mouse and generally wanting a rest on a Sunday as well, they don't suit me)

Am about to fit a TKC80 front tire to the KTM to make it easier to get onto Murawia beach (bike doesn't steer well in the softer sand with the stock MT90) and have a DRBIG with Knobbies (Trail tires would probable be Ok for most rides on lighter bikes) and between that and the North and South Gravel roads within a 100ks or so of Auckland there are plenty of places to ride.

Anyone interested ?

Check out the northern gravel adventure riders, they seem fairly active up your way. Be aware their rides have a price.
Either that or you can head south and come on the free rides :woohoo:

or wait until they run the same ride and charge ya for it :nya:

Hi TLLF
Yep I am a member of that group  but as I mentioned they mostly ride on a Sunday (when they ride Saturday am at most of their events :woohoo: and don't mind promoting them here either)

Have done the Forgotten Highway down your way a few time on KTM, its not really ADVriding as such but still a hoot with the 100mph gravel section in the middle

Well I know it looks bad out there but it is supposed to clear for Saturday, so if the planets line up and my Kenda K784 gets fitted to KTs front hoop tomorrow then a couple of us are planing to leave from Z gas station at Westgate at 9am heading towards metal roads on and up to Puhoi, up from there to West Coast Rd, back to Wisons Rd Parakia, onto the Beach and down to Murawia and Home,

If anyone else is interested let us know and will arrange meet up

I'd be keen as but heading out tomorrow morning to look at a new bike trailer for our KTM's, then hopefully we'll be taking those very KTM's up to the sandpit for the afternoon. Anyone else coming on the NGARNZ ride on Sunday?

21st June 2013, 20:33
Well it looks like we are all go for the first sorty, new Kenda big block fitted to the front and someone to keep me company on our road gravel and sand tire test (Bit worried about the 160kph Q rating, hope that's not a problem, I quess sand is soft so shouldnt be an issue there )

anyone else out there interested we will be leaving from Z service station Westgate at 915am tomorrow route as per previos post

Lanky, would do NGARNZ ride sept not available Sundays and may zoot past Bike park about 3pm on way down beach tomorrow, How do we identify you from all the other KTM guys there :eek5:

Bugger I couldn't join you tomorrow, should be a good day for a ride.

Easy to spot the better half and I, look for the mediocre talent trying (and failing) to pull wheelies everywhere followed by Becca on her Freeride with one of those 'here we go again' looks on her face.

Let me know when the next ride is on, I'm always keen!

Meu, KT the DR and Mr Red Jacket rugged up warm and headed out, found some metal and sand to test KT's new front tire, took in some cool scenery and ended up at the Bike park to tease the dirt bike guys into thinking we were going to do some forrest loops

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/161113-Stolen-07-dr650-auckland?p=1130616288#post1130616288

Stink one, will keep an eye out

Stolen - '07 dr650 - auckland
Suzuki DR650SE 2007 model stolen from West Harbour, Auckland last night (discovered today, 24th September 2013).

Number plate 76ZBK

Colour is black with white rear plastic (covering the exhaust and other side) has Enduro stickers on those white panels. White sticker on the front light part as well (with the rego + wof stuck on there).

If anyone sees this bike, please report it to the cops, or give me a call on 021 444 321.

No insurance, so if you see anything, please let me know (yes, I know I should have it insured, haven't had it very long and hadn't gotten around to transferring insurance from my old bike to this one...yes, the bike I sold a month ago still has insurance, but not this new one )

It really is a great bike, the more I ride it the more I realise that.

Not trying to rub it in but with the setup we got now, tires and a bit less weight she is close to the mark

BTW, I would consider and XR6hundy otherwise, or even dare I say it the 5hundy (am still hunting for a good North Island one)

What did you do....?

Its just my rides are so last minutes there little chance anyone could get ready in time

The two stroke has died (no spark) so pulled at the trusty DRBig as she's a cracker. did my usual run through to Muriwai, top up the 29 litre tank just in case I ended up the wildness and so I could use as much throttle as I wanted. Noted that the 725cc 4 stroke feels like its being towed by the hand of God when given throttle (lots of torque)

Stop at the Beach for a Bottle of Mocha and to watch the horses and 4wd's (most of them returned after a few minutes as tide was about 3/4 and its a bit tough going in the water logged sand,

Made the call and headed up the beach the 12ks to Rimmers Road, kept the DR in 3rd gear at about 5000 revs and was able to hold 60-70kph without straining the old girl to much (I'm sure the horse guys thought I was made heading up into the incoming tide but DR has done before) at times I'm not sure if the clutch was slipping or she was wheel spinning as revs and speed didn't always match but the show must go on and as the 2x 60k speeds signs came into site I was relieved and shot straight through the 4wd access and to my favourite stop over amongst the trees, could have fried my breakfast on the engine but the DR never complains.

Did a ride through the bike park car-park and enjoyed the what the heck looks from all the Dirt bikers doing a couple of the hill climbs on the assess ways just show that the Doctor is a proper dirt bike and high tailed it up the metal road heading for the main highway, those 606's have a lot of grip so am looking forward to a good run on some real loose stuff up the Waikato way soon.

Arrived home for lunch after buzzing as many cars as I could (safely of course) satisfied that MR Big is one fine piece of kit

Almost:crazy:, but not quite :msn-wink:

Story, Came upon the WR on a slippery down hill I was already committed to more speed but notice he had a little shimmy in the front and was hanging on for grim death, went by as straight as I could hoping for the best and did the same at the bottom of the hill (did my best to make it seem all in a days work)
He stayed well away from me after that (probably didn't want to be squashed) and little did he know I was freaking to
