OK so Feb I got a cruiser, cheap bike for the year/ K's, been super reliable and like anything I own I have been tinkering a bit..... Nothing to serious and mostly not to fussed on spending lots of money so most things have been done on a budget.... A couple of must haves I have spent some coin on

(Mostly pictures and I will upload them as I get time)

As I got it.

Saddle bags fitted, screen gone

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_0541.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_0541.jpg.html)

Tool bag

Progressive shocks arrived... Not toooo expensive and worth every penny as it made a huge difference to the handling even though the factory shocks had only done 17K

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_1440.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_1440.jpg.html)

Some fog lamps fitted to stand out a little more on the road.... black bike and leathers doesn't seam to stand out enough... Had some pretty close calls

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_1472.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_1472.jpg.html)

GPS purchased to get me home when I just "end up somewhere" not really knowing where that is

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_0943.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_0943.jpg.html)

Rear LED indicators to make is easier closing the rear of the saddle bags.... More to come later :)

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_1618.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_1618.jpg.html)

A few more pics

LED strips fitted under the tank to make it more visible from the side at night

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_1760.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_1760.jpg.html)

As you can see in his pic the headlight and tail light just don't show much from the side

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_1764.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_1764.jpg.html)

Another larger spend... but after a couple of longer runs with the wife on the back and her getting uncomfortable and shuffling around... A wider rear seat was in order so A mustang seat was ordered when I found one on special... front and rear and the front is definitely more comfortable

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2123.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2123.jpg.html)

I had also put a sharper bend in the sissy bar and changed the mounting system

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2124.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2124.jpg.html)

Then I noted the plastic grill in front of the radiator was starting to look a bit stuffed at the lower end were stones had been hitting it..... Stainless grill now fitted with the plastic still on behind it

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2175.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2175.jpg.html)

fitting the daytime running lamps

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2178.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2178.jpg.html)

Making the LED front indicator mounts

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2179-1.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2179-1.jpg.html)

Lifting the headlamp (extended the bracket up 50mm) and blacking the lower triple clamp as it looked out of place sliver

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2181.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2181.jpg.html)

as it was the weekend before last compared to the start

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_0401.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_0401.jpg.html)

Scott mods 4" forward controls (Pic's are a bit dark)

After reading a thread on the shadow forum where a my model bike was having the bars fail (cracking around the welds) I decided to fit some risers and new bars :)

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2291.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2291.jpg.html)

I had to mod the daytime running lamp brackets, also made a new bracket for the GPS with an area to fit switches for the day lamps and fog lamps

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2306.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2306.jpg.html)

Holes drilled for the switches and fitted

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2309.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2309.jpg.html)

Shifted the heated grips controls as well

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2326.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2326.jpg.html)

bars, forward controls and new GPS mounts fitted

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_2328.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_2328.jpg.html)

I have the new clutch springs and will do the 4 deg timing mod....but might leave it for a bit to do more riding as my average of 1500 clicks on the clock per month has taken a hit

I am modding a tank for it as well so can do that without putting it off the road, Aim is to up the distance I can travel on a tank.

Really like the blue LED with the silver engine and the black paintwork...people must think they're seeing a UFO when you zoom past at night. Also looks a bit retro 'Batman', or maybe 'Knight Rider'?

Bike looks much sharper with all of it though - and it's one of a kind, 'tailored' to fit :) .

Sweet ride dude and nice mods, especially the blacking of the triple clamp, a minor thing but makes it look a lot cleaner.

Nice job,the raised head light an blacked out lower sure makes it look different,,tougher.

I've bought the same risers you have for the same reason.
I've seen a broken Tee bar in action, bugger that.

I replaced the bolts for the caps with longer ones as the threads were deep enough, Dont want to strip those and run taps in all the threads to ensure they were all tidy before running the bolts in, The lower bolts have 50mm thread running in, Still more flex than the originals.... I think I have an idea to sort that but yet to find the time to sort it.

Well putting the 4" forward controls made it more comfortable but the different foot angle meant the heel draged before the pegs so I had been resorting to riding with the heels on the pegs while researching making some floor boards... then found some good adjustable ones on special :D

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_3015-1.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_3015-1.jpg.html)

Chucked them on and went out to join the Thursday South Auck ride....mmm not so flash, back for an adjust at the workshop on our way and much better but took some tools with me, reset at Muddy and not enough clearance to the gear change and no tools to adjust that so set the boards lower.... Then it Scraped a couple of times on the way home without pushing it to hard so back to the work shop and adjusted the brake and gear leaver (Bend the suckers as well as adjust) and lift the boards up and shes mint, yet to scrape them even on the sure scrape corner but I guess they would have been close, Might get rid of the last 5mm of chicken strips yet :D

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_3020.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_3020.jpg.html)

Like them so much I have ordered the mini version for the rears :P

I need to adjust the bars a little to allow for the different leg position as the hand touch the knees at full lock now, easy to sort :)

I popped the Raked Morton triple clamps on and the 2" extensions they came with, fitted the new "ALL BALLS" Race bearings to the steering head. Makes quite a difference to the wheel position..

I am thinking I will trim the front guard back to nearer the shape of my VT1100C as the the wheel is further forward I think the guard looks wrong, That can wait until I have a lot more done.. Just is can I change my mind on looks with more of the mods done.

I will re run some cables through the hole at the front of the top clamp

Tonight I will cut the front pipes of the muffler and mod the rear cylinder pipe so I can see where they end up and work the rear frame around them... then its time to frame up the diff :)

leathel
25th April 2014, 16:55
I managed to put a little time in this afternoon, Got base for the frame tacked in place, started to look at the suspension links to see if I use the old arm I got from the car or fabricate a new setup.... leaning to using the current arms as its less work but time will tell :)

I have been looking at luggage storage options so I can set the rear width to suit, I dont want the wheels poking way out the sides.... Both the top box and hard bags are now ordered, Bags are less paint and brackets but that suits me as I will make my own brackets to suit the new frame and I have a spray booth at work so paint is not a problem... Much much cheaper too :D

http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/aftermarket/XP-4794510.html

the top box was the one the wife chose (being she will be the main rider of it) and I am not positive it was the best one, almost a bit of a gimmick but it may look great

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-Motorcycle-Trunk-W-Taillight-for-Harley-Honda-Yamaha-Suzuki-Vulcan-Cruiser-/400701911533?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d4bb1f1ed

With the wider saddle bag it allows me to have the wheel at a width the RH axle can stay std... less work to do than expected. I will fit things when they arrive before doing the final fit up/ setup of the suspension and diff

OK so its going to be an early night on the bike tonight...Just ran out of gas for the welder

So I guess an update is in order...

Been some highs and very lows in the last week and a bit.....

Sunday been was a shocker, with a death in the family (uncle) I sort to spend a day on the trike and get some real progress, I had some of the Suspension work done in the evenings so was showing progress :D

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_6200.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_6200.jpg.html)

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_6197.jpg (http://s222.photobucket.com/user/leathel-one/media/IMG_6197.jpg.html)

but on a stand back and look Sunday morning things didn't look right, lots of measuring and scratching my head the rear was square to the lower frame..... but not to the upper frame???

OK set the front wheel/ triple clamps to the center line of the bike, lock them there, get a level out and see it the from wheel is vertical (its not I can see it but I need to make sure) and sure enough its not, tilt the bike until it is.... and Houston we have a problem! the lower frame was not a good part to set the plane to measure from as one side is 18mm higher than the other... Faaarkin great. Out with the cutoff disc and drop the new frame of the bike (mostly just tack welded in place thankfully) ... take a break and check my emails and I have one re my saddle bags order... they want another $258 for freight if that's OK.... Faaark that, still trying to sort that one as I can get others the same size for 1/3 that freight.

The dog knows something is up... Look boss I see the problem :P

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_6208.jpg

nothing in this pic is symmetrical side to side...

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd316/leathel-one/IMG_6227.jpg

Bend a couple of the lower pipes, measure again, bend some more, recheck... still a bit more then we have the lower frame in place and Sunday over with zero actual progress

After work it all continues, While the upper is off time to make the bumper and light mounts, finish making diff mounts etc and now back on progress mode

The top box is to small to fit a helmet so have another on the way, the area the wooden box is under it will also be storage but longer than the bags.... plenty for those long weekend trips, the wife can be the gear storage on the trike so I will hardly need to put my saddle bags on :D

Now I have the bags I can get back to the suspension, had to wait to see the clearance to the bags.
