I'm stuck......

Need parts, but not having any success in finding what I need for my old timey bike.

Was going to buy a new set of carbs but the advice given was it would be the same as what I have on my bike.

Am after a set of float bowl needles, nylon tip, with springs, and new gaskits.

They are makune carbs for a 1982 Suzuki Katana GS550M

Tracked down a place in Canada but they were out of stock with parts :weep:

my only mediocre suggestion is to id what mikuni carb you have - e.g BSD-40...and then see if any other bike share that carb type...there were heaps of katana's on the road in the 80's weren't there?
good luck

Im often amazed at just how many different bikes use the same part.

Bookmrk this site and have a look at it:
http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm

click the year your bike was made on the left, and keep clicking the appropriate tabs - you can look every item up by its actual part number.
Google the part number and youll probably find it online fairly cheap. Ive done this a few times, often parts from years and years ago were used on various models for 20 years and are actually readily available on ebay or us based sites if you are unable to locate them here.

Thanks guys, checked out the site but I dont know what the actual name of the part in question actually is. I've only ever known it as a float bowl needle with a spring....does it go by any other name?

I'll look at the carbs on sunday and see what ID they are....

i use alpha sports for a lotr of shit but for something like that get them from Alec Saunders, i'm rebuilding a couple of GS1000's so well versed at sourcing shit. He'll likely have them in stock and cheaper than paying a bomb for postage and you get to deal locally and support a kiwi business, need i say more?

The rubber tipped needle valves very rarely give any trouble.

If the float bowls are over-flowing I'd be checking the state of the o-ring around the needle valve seat.

At this price it'd be a good idea to just freshen everything up!

Comes with a bunch of Mikuni jets you could onsell as well if you don't need 'em.

i thought i pm ed you with details in auckland did he not come through?
if not you may need to do a parts cross reference as often they'll have the more popular models in stock but you'll find that there are simliarities, i've got four old GS's and have no trouble sourcing most parts like these

I got stuck and gave up....had a nice surprise in the post this morning new float needles....they are for the GS550M model Katana...however, they are nothing like what I have on the bike :(

The hand brake system is off a bandit....

and I discovered this morning the carbs are not the original, they too are off a bandit bike....

How is this possible??

No I dont know what is and what isn't genuine on the bike, should I buy a carb set which is the correct model? My mechanic said to me he thinks the carbs were a bit on the small side and wondered if they were the right ones, but said the bike would run ok....

Now I have full carbs repair kits x4 for the wrong model....
