After the flooding of recent days its now snowing here down South,i reckon we are in for a rough time of it as theres still plenty water lying about.Had to go up to Timaru yesterday and the road north of Oamaru was closed then, had plans to go up tommorow but cancelled as even if the snow doesnt close more roads i reckon the flooding will.Had to laugh yesterday at the many cars parked along the detour road (7 mile road),was talking to a bloke trying to help people out who had just about given up as drivers just couldnt grasp the slow down signs and literally plunged into the water only to come to a halt with flooded cars.Am wondering what its like down in Dunedin as i guess if we here have snow then they probably have alot more. Not much we can do about it eh,fires going and Bourbons in the fridge, time to hunker down.At least its not calving/lambing time just yet.

HR e-mailed all staff 'snow' warnings and how the company intend to deal with snow when if it arrives in CHCH. Was all very good, provided one could actually get to work ......... bawahahahahahaha
We are all looking forward to a big snow dump - supermarkets are being stripped around CHCH in anticipation of a lock down. Bring it I say.

After 2006, the Met Service has been paranoid regarding snowfall and these kind of extreme weather events... In 2006 the snowfall was like no other I'd ever seen. I was out working in it when it hit and through the night and it was amazing to see it fall so quickly and at such a low altitude.
After that event the Met Service took a fair bit of flack over the complete lack of warning back then. 6 years later we are now in a boy cries wolf scenario (Well I am after years of notification emails from the Met Service).
Its all pissing me off a bit cause I went to get some bread for me sammies and the entire place is cleaned out due to the now paranoid, media fed population.
WTF am I gonna put my marmite on now? Now that is something to worry about!!!!!!!

IF it comes to chch is ONLY BLOODY SNOW.
It's not really me I'm worried about, it's all the clown cagers that drive on it 2x a year and have a tendancy to do some sort of ballet impression all over the road.
Which brings me to....
half the world live in snow 6 months of the year, they manage... oddly they drive cars and handle it how come kiwis have 4x4's and arse up?
Cos they don't live on an island in the middle of the ocean where it's so variable? Hence why we get a couple bouts of snow a year, not 6 months constant. Also hence we don't use snow/winter tyres.
Practice makes perfect and we get fuckall really.

Well, it's a beautiful sunny Thursday morning in the Eastern Bay of Plenty - I had an excellent ride around the Ohiwa Harbour to work, with only a few isolated patches of light fog. The road was a little wet from overnight showers and the seal bleed was sparkling in the sun (slippery fucking shit it is) ... I saw two police vehicles as I was sitting behind cages waiting for a passing opportunity - so no worries there either.

Sick of this rain. The drought was more enjoyable. At least you could ride.
Thursday night's (20/06/13) freight train storm hitting Welly was more a train wreck. Trees and fences flattened in our street. Lost a small pine I planted years go. Maybe it's just resting lying down on the job?
Here's some pics of the park at the end of our street where over a dozen tall pines sadly lost the plot. There's a house under there somewhere slam dunked by those trees.

Skis are preferred in that situation but, if you judge the weather wrong when you go out to the letterbox in the morning they could be called 'slippers'.
