Do u think the Go pro cameras are the best option with price, quality, sound inputs etc? or are there other better alternative cameras out there that could make up for the high quality but cheaper option that the Go pros have?? if there are cheaper cameras with simalar video quality out there, please note them as i am interested in investing in one, thanks.:2thumbsup

The gopro two is nice quality, though you might want to think about how long it'll take to go through all the video you will record and how much storage you'll chew up.
The other thing to think about is where you will put the camera, on top of the helmet works ok for MX, but not such a good place in the bush. Some like it on their chest, but I think your head is a pretty impressive stabilizer myself and prefer the video from helmet mounted systems.

I got a Contour HD very cheap off trademe from a guy that got it as a work incentive. He never used it. It great, simple to mount and use. I mainly use it to show my partner who is house bound the places I ride.

Watches? Fark, I don't have the time to edit it into something reasonable so people could watch.
Plus there is the storing of all the footage (no, I don't trust Youtube et al to keep it safe).

Ariki - ignore our local troll Agsel - when we were kids we used to call people like that a mud-mouth - no matter what they say it is shit. It can't be fixed and it ain't worth wasting time over.
My mate has a Go Pro 3 and he loves it but as others have noted, it pulls in a lot of hi-def footage (duh) which means you've gotta have a lot of computer storage. He's got about 10 external Hard Drives at 1TB or 1.5TB each and they're all full.
The next step for him is looking into some sort of compression tech that works so you've got that to look forward to - also your computer will need a decent graphics card to deal with it.
I hear that the editing software can suck a lot of time too - has anyone else got favourite programs that they use for editing and/or storage?

go pro all day every day....... video quality, picture quality, accessory range, it mops the floor with anything on the market, iv got a hero3 black edition and its great.
Dealing with huge files of hd footage is a pain in the ass when it comes to storage, transfering and editing but dialing down how booty your vids are can combat this if it becomes a hassle, i find 1080p better than it needs to be so mostly use 720p on 60fps and find this helps with file size and battery life, which is another pain when i come to think of it, but i got a battery bac pac for it and that has made a big difference.
As for fagxle........ put him on your ignor list everyone else does, then you can pick and choose and only have to deal with him when hes behaving

LOL, you would think so aye
Mate at work just paid over $350 (second hand!!), for a Contour HD/Wifi/gps does everything camera....it can record in HD for a whole 20mins!!...wow!!
Where as my shitty $50 Kodak ZX-1 records in 720HD 60FPS and can run for nearly 2hours on 2 little AA batteries :killingme
....I think some people are just buying based on the brand-name and not the actual required functionality, hence it really does pay to shop around as there are just so many brands, options and functions to choose from nowadays.
Biggest tip with mounting a camera on your bike!...use a safety cord on the camera!, DO NOT TRUST THE MOUNTS ETC!! (Yeah...I learn't THAT one the hard way  )

Happy with a RePlay XD1080 meself. Seems to do all I want it to. There are various comparisons out there in cyberspace that match it against GoPro stuff. Read and decide.

I have a GoPro 3 Silver.
With battery backpack you get around 2hrs, which is not bad.
If you cant be bothered to edit clips together, you can use handbrake (free) to just extract some highlights, compress and then upload to youtube.

one of the bicycling mags did a simultaneous comparison of the top 6 (or 8.. I think 6) cameras
1st - sony
2nd - gopro
3rd Contour
The sony was first because it has all the features of contour and gopro, with better image stabilization, a great picture and a lower price tag.

Sony Vegas Pro 11 I use to edit, no problem i normally have my gopro set at 720p @60fps now I got the new GP3 Black I set it 720p @120fps more so because I'm playing around with slow motion video. I don't just use my gopro for when out riding. Always trying something new.

It's a good bit of kit. The only issue with it for her is the goggles sometimes fog up in high humidity/rain conditions. But which goggles don't. We've usually got about 2 hours of footage before then and footage in the rain is usually crap anyway.

I like the GoPro because of how you can expand it with many add on mounts etc. Also spare parts are available and the housing is very serviceable. Also if you are into water sports it is good for that too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvLvyVEdkiE
But those goggles look like a great deal, and the footage looks great too. Can't beat that for price.

Nice vid. Yup totally. The GoPro is quite versatile. I've had it at the bottom of a pool, on a stuntkite, towed at the back of a boat etc etc too. Really good personal sports cam, just getting a bit pricey now with the other choices becoming available out there.
This clip has both the GoPro and LIC interwoven throughout. The LIC image is brighter and the sound is better, so most of the sound track has been carried on through from the LIC. Tho if it wasn't for the bargain price I wouldn't have got it as it is only a single purpose cam.

Go Pro seems to be the industry standard, but is for good reason. Does what it's supposed to and has good sound quality. As for who watches the vids, fuck knows I've got a couple of hundy views on some of mine on you tube and even I got bored of them after the 3rd watch. But at least I can one day show my kids how awesome I wasn't.

i havent used the go pro and apparently they are good, especially the newer ones with wifi, but ive got a drift stealth which has a lower profile than the quite tall gopro. the drift cam also has a small playback screen, but you wouldnt wanna watch to much through it,its quite a small screen but useful at times and is up to 1080hd with real clear footage. pretty good cam for the money, bout 3hundy last time i took notice and comes with different mounting options.

On a similar note - anyone know a good one to use to take still as well as good video? Not needing huge res 2+ megapixel is fine. Needs to have a LCD also so you can see the pic.
Or am I asking two much from a sports cam?
I just would really love a cam that does all.

Go Pro certainly have a good product. My only issue is the size of them in some applications, esp. as a helmet cam. I saw on the news this morning that Mr. (can't remember his first name), Taylor from Weta met the chief from go Pro at the America's Cup venue and they discussed the advantages of adding a GPS function to the cameras.
Watch this space, I guess.
