When petrol was 40 cents a liter ... it was ok (sort of) to get 8 miles to the gallon. And when you hit "things" in them ... they stayed hit. usually coming off worse than you did.

As long as you were well belted in - no airbags/inpact absorbent materials in old stuff - you hit steel and stayed hit!

I don't know that a seatbelt would have been any use there.

Drug package in the Bel Air's boot was more important than the driver anyways.

Fark. From the looks - Malibu, can still open the front door. Bel Air, can't even open the rear door.

A diifferent point of impact would have made a noticeably different result - but I still wouldn't want to be in the '59.

That's what I was thinking.

Good video though - shows that designers are learning.

I bet the Chev could still be fixed, the other car, well .........

It's all about fixing the occupants rather than the cars, nowadays. The less damage they suffer the easier they are to fix. Death sux.

Yeah with a complete cut from the boot forward. By the new owner. Cos the old one is dead.

So, how have the crash results improved on a motorcycle in that time ? Oh, we all wear better gear, but in that sort of impact still die very well.

Modern cars channel the forces around and under the "survival Zone" the load paths are designed to fail at certain loads and "channel " the forces

the old chev , just , um failed

also the dashboard acted like a bacon slicer , esp the glovebox door ....

Top gear did one , with a volvo and a small suzuki ? ......

According to mythbusters , 60g?? about---- is fatal ( not sure on the exact number )

I bet the Chev could still be fixed, the other car, well .........Both could be fixed, but given they would bother require another car to be a donor, it's really defeating the point.
