The rev counter on my '97 ER5 is not working. Is this a common fault for this model and is it easy enough to fix? :(

I'm replying to my own post. I have finally fixed the problem myself - replaced the diode and resistor on the tachometer circuit board. Making electronic dog collars has come in handy after all :msn-wink:

I know its a long shot but I have exactly the same problem and was wondering if you can remember what resistor and diode you used to fix it. There's no way of reading the resistor it's completely burnt and charred.
Thanks.

Resistor - 0.5W 33R 1% (orange, orange, black, gold, brown) Diode - ZR1004. I hope this helps :)
Have you checked the rectifier? What I had google , if rectifier faulty it can send a surge through to the rev counter causing the diode and resister to burn out
