Used Rainex inside a windscreen on drivers side only - no, it didn't stop the steaming up as I thought it would.
now it looks 'smeary' - and seems to steam up even quicker!
Tried Pams windw cleaner to get rid of it - no go.
Tried Dulon thinners - same result.
Anybody got a cunning plan - apart from smashing the screen?:(
BTW: when using cleaner the side wihtout Rainex 'squeaks' - the Rainex side doesn't.

Did the police tap on your window to see what you were doing to steam your windows up so much?

What's that alcohol they use to make weed oil?
Paper towels instead of cloth.
Failing that, I got nothing.

Yuh the fog off product is really good - better than the others I have tried.

Google tells me that lighter fluid is good. It's about the naptha (zippo type fluid).

Google also tells me that it's a really bad idea to put rain-x inside your windscreen. Sorry, should have told you sooner.

Saw those mentioned too, but nowhere near as often as the lighter fluid.
Then again, maybe Scummy could get some confiscated IPA from somewhere?

Better if you can get hold of some of the stuff from before they reduced the meths content. Suggest isopropyl instead if you can't get decent meths.

Geez, hope you aren't expecting one of the boys in blue be dishonest? :corn:

Shouldn't be necessary to be dishonest. Must be plenty of volunteers to throw some stones ;)

I'll have to import them - the local ones are (a) too loyal or (b) too scared of the consequences.;)

Try Eucalyptus oil, if you can stand the smell without passing out in a confined space. good for removing sticky stuff like labels and is often found in the house.
You'll find Kero and IPA remove different types of sticky stuff. I have a squirty bottle of each on the bench at work. If one doesnt work, the other usually does, and you've already tried thinners which is my 3rd choice...
Failing that go to town with autosol and buff the crap out of it.

Is paint-stripper too harsh on glass??

I've noticed the effect before, normally I sort it with a clean cloth (I use microfibre) and a damn good rub all over the screen, fixes any smearing.
Yes, you sort of apply all over the screen, then spend more time rubbing hard. You can only see the smearing during fogging or other special light conditions, but then you know you have to rub it again (or you didn't do it enough before).

Depends what you are rubbing it on with. Microfiber cloth would be ok, a bit of toweling rag could leave some marking.

Why don't you try using the demister fitted to your car? The works for me everytime.

Do they even bother to confiscate it?
I'd have thought it wouldn't be worth having to dispose of it, after dealing with whatever else they would be there to take.

White spirits should move it an not leave any residue.
If it doesn't I can sell you a good brick of Huntly clay.

I only use Rainex on outside only. Put on with paper towel. Wait until dry. Put a second coat on over first. Wait until Dry.
Spray on water, and then polish dry, with a clean towel.
This is the only way I have found that works. And it usually lasts a couple of months, before next application, if I don't use the wipers too much.

They do if there is evidence of it being used for brewing oil.:devil2:

Aw scummy, ya didn't, did ya?
Akz is right, meths and "scrunched" ( important this part is) up newspaper is the best ever window cleaner, then a good cotton cloth and some elbow grease for the streaking.
Then as a fellow poster said, use the lol fucking lol demister! Geez Wayne and don't go near the glass on the inside with anything else again, silly silly man ewe.
Don't take it too hard mate, we all learn by our mistakes and we sometimes give our mates licence to give us shit by telling the truth and taking the following ribbing.

There must be a solution to removing it in here somewhere so I won't fog the issue further.. heh heh. May I suggest that once the windscreen is clean again just give it a wipe with a touch of washing up liquid to stop misting. Cheap & easy but needs to be done regularly. Giving me a funny look? Try it on a bit of your bathroom mirror.
