So I just found this webpage. I am in my 40's, have a scooter (50cc one) and wondering if there is anyone who has a scooter club going for the non italian kind or if there is anyone or several up for weekend rides around Auckland. I am city side of the bridge so I guess you guys would have to be too .

Something about it being part of the motorway system... OK, before some smartie pants points out - the motorway system can be the biggest parking lot in the country...

In the olden days - the days of the Bridge Authority and toll booths - the authority would close the bridge to all two-wheeled vehicles due to wind gusts.

Pooks, I think there's been a thread about scooter rides in the Auckland area, sometime earlier in the year. Enjoy your riding from another scooter and bike rider.

Bummer, I used to scoot across there on a CB50, but that was in the early 80s. Make a day of it then and go through Greenhithe.:Punk::Punk:

Greenhithe - used to be accessible via 'open road' once beyond Hobsonville, now alas a motorway only. So for the littlies, it's via Riverhead and Coatesville...

Not quite - some very nice cafes to stop at :woohoo: - it's not like going into "Injun Country" south of the Bombays!

Here speaks a Rangitoto Yank.

Wasnt many places to stop back in the 80s, except the pub in riverhead, and I wouldn't of ridden a scooter there back then. I did ride the cb50 from Browns Bay to Whangaparoa, then out to Kaukapakapa and back to the shore with my brother on his FA 50.But we took the whole weekend and slept on the side of the road at the back of the riverhead forest.:Punk:

49ers down Deep South have social gatherings on "scooters" but we ride them off legal roads where possible, too dangerous on public roads.

About 1970, I rode my V50 Yamaha stepthrough from Putaruru-Tga- Whakatane and back to Putaruru in one day. My mate Ken rode his Fs 50 with me.

The things you do when young and stupid:msn-wink: Now that I'm old and stupid, not much has changed. Bring your scooter down to Thames on the 21st July when I'm riding my scooter around the Coro loop.

There was an older chap on a YW50 who did the Child Cancer ride from Wanganui to Taupo in March. The bike went very well.

Put it on a trailer and tow it down to Thames. I'm not into racing, so if a riding companions bike sits on 50-60kph, then I'm happy to sit at that speed.

If you're inviting me, thanks but, alas, I have a prior commitment that weekend. Enjoy your ride.

Just woken up. ( I work nightshift ) I'll take buggsy up to the sv stn soon and let him overdose on 91 octane. My problem with riding a scooter that's tanked up with gas, is he wants to burn up half that tank on the way home.

1.2k home to petrol stn, 60k, petrol stn to home. This Wednesday/Thursday are days off, so weather permitting, Buggsy and I are off to Rotorua.

95 octane for my scooter 98 octane seems to make it hard to cold start in the morning

the kick start broke and i never used it

I've only ever used 91. Bike always starts okay, and goes like stink ( well like a 100cc stink), I'm still running the original plug in it.

i run 95 cause it runs cooler and gives better economy iridium plug that i run in my old scooter

Hey, there are still adventurous scooterists out there. Take the 80+ year old who did the Central Plateau Scooter Challenge in March. He then carried on to see his rellies..... and can't wait to do his third run in 2015.

Hey, so I've had no motorised 2 wheel transportation for a while, as I can't afford a car and a motorbike.
But in the new year I'll be working in the CBD, so with parking and public transport what it is, I got a "nifty fifty" scooter (A Yamaha YW50F "Beewee", FWIW) just to get to work and back, and for the free parking in the CBD at my new work location.

Anyway, I picked up the new scoot in Whangaparaoa, and I live in Mt Albert, so I had a kinda fun first ride home the other night from Whangaparaoa via Silverdale -> Dairy Flat -> Coatesville -> Riverhead -> Kumeu -> Massey -> Henderson -> New Lynn -> Avondale -> Mt Albert. About 58 Kms or so. But it actually was fun to be back on 2 wheels again. I still hope to get a Triumph S'Triple some day, when I can afford it, but in the mean time; and which brings me around to the topic of this thread...

If there are any other 50cc scooter riders in Auckland who are keen to go on some fun blats about Auckland; post here ideas on when and suggested routes, and maybe we could make something happen! I say 50cc scooters, because we'll be limited to about 50-60 Kph and won't be able to use motorways, but there are still some quite fun rides around the Auckland area...

That's a good ride on a "nifty fifty" - good on you! - it'll take you anywhere, provided you're not in a rush.

As for rides in the urban area - do a "climb every mountain", start with Mt Albert and on to the others: most have road access... can be a good outing.

Cheers

Yeah that's a good idea. Mt Eden (while there's still vehicular access), No tree hill, etc...

Also there are some nice windy roads around the Waitak's.
