Is there a time limit ie on the back of the form it says "if the vehicle is subject to continuous licensing and is unlicensed for more than 12 months its rego will be cancelled".Are they saying thats the limit on an exemption or if an exemption wasnt applied for they would cancel the rego after 12 months?

The VF rego has been on hold for nearly 2 yrs.:(
Reg expires if you dont put it on hold within a year.

At the end of the exemption period they just send you a normal renewal, at which time you just apply for an exemption again.

Do it for twelve. You can relicense it at any time regardless.

Don't let the exemption run out though or they will still sting you for rego fees until you relicence or exempt it again... If after 12mths you havent done anything they will cancel your registration and set the dogs on you for a years rego fees... (which reminds me my exemption runs out in a couple of days)

And remember if your registration/licencing expires, according to TPTB, your car is no longer safe and must be revinned.
Obviously having no WoF for 15 years is okay though, because safety is related to registration and ACC levies and not a safety check carried out by professionals.
There is no money grabbing happening at all and these rules are perfectly logical.

I had a 500 on hold and the exemption ran out (and of course i forgot about it for 6 weeks) put it on hold again online for 12 months, sold it a week later. Went and got a warrant and 3 months reg , no back paying of reg and got the full 3 months ! Think you can let it run over for up to 3 months and not cop any back rego !
Just saying !

So what's the shortest period you can stick a rego on hold for? Three months?

Yep,if you relicence within the 3 month period you have to back pay until the date you exempted.(i think)

This is true ! Simple rule is exempt it for a minimum of 6 months but dont re reg it till at least 3 months is up , then ya shouldn't get caught out (but then you may as i did, get away with running over the 6 months by one or two, before you put it on hold again ! So if your exemption runs out 2 months ago, put it back on exemption before you go get your warrant and re reg it or you MAY have to back pay the 2 odd months you ran over your exemption !
Confused ? Know i am !

Even though you put it on hold and have not used the vehicle?
I don't understand how they can legally charge you for something you're exempt from (by being on hold)
No money grabbing though, they're taking care of us.

Apparently it costs nothing to put on hold if you do it online.
If you do it at the post office its around $5.00..
Or so I have been informed after I spent around $5.00...:angry2:

Simple really - if you had it on hold for say three months and went back after two to relicense how would you prove that you did NOT use it for he past two months? You can not thus they backdate the rego.
A letter from your mum will not help either!

no. Its a stack of jews. The same jew stack that pays you.
Pray what "service" would i get of the registrar, were i to furnish the paper+ money?
Afaik, i just makes your billing infringements easier.

yall confusing licensing, cvl, with rego.
If vehicle remains unlicensed and unexemped for 12 months, they cancel the REGISTRATION and make you pay the 12 months LICENSING. or, fuck you in the ass.

While on registration topic - if you have a vehicle that gets used infrequently (ie classic that only goes out once in a blue moon) use form MR27 to specify the date the reg expires. Don't know what the minimum period is, but I registered the bike for 14 days for the Brass Monkey rally. Not sure if they (VTNZ) made an error or not but I got two weeks for $8.80. (seems a bit odd as a full year at that rate would be 26 x 8.80 = 228.80 as opposed to $560 odd if reg'ed for 12 months, but, who am I to complain?)

err nope, you just fill out that form. I did it recently to use one of my vehicles to go to and from rallies without a problem. :2thumbsup

I believe there is two months grace period for continuing with a rego on hold.
There is a way round the absurd requirement to pay back rego if the two month period expires - simply change the registered owner who then puts the vehicle on hold - and swap it back straight away. Two lots of $9.20.
Yes the "debt" for back rego may get listed with Baycorp, but when I last complained they simply deleted it from my credit history.
Remember the "debt" is not criminal and there is no practical way to enforce payment.
Police tickets for no rego on the other hand are criminal, but just as for diesel vehicles an occasional $200 fine is cheaper than being legal.
