Interesting. Branding/scarification has been on my to-do list for a while, but the only person I ever knew that did it in NZ was the guy from Flesh Wound (WLG) who moved away, and some friends in the UK. Got a link?

Hamish has moved up north now. Warkworth. There are a couple in Auckland that do it but I would only trust him. I'll ask what shop he's working out of now. I'm meant to be getting my next cautery branding done from him soon. Just trying to work up the balls and find a branding partner to come with.
What are you looking to get done? And where? When I get home I'll post pics of my back.
@ unstuck- most men don't get enlarged when they see what gets done at times. :p

Oh yeah that would be good. I'm interested in branding, and also possibly in minimalist style scarification over ink, but mainly keen to talk to whoever's doing it for thoughts.

Cautery or strike? Personally I prefer cautery because of the detail you can have. And strike has a tendency to spread depending on your skin and healing type. What colour are you?
Over ink would be interesting. Do you keloid? Or do you want to keloid?
Mines engraved.
Just waiting on Hamish to reply.

Cautery, I think, but not set on it.
Not really sure what the deal with keloids is but I wouldnt want masses of scar tissue like some people aim for. What do you mean by engraved?

Some people keloid no matter what. I'm lucky I don't really. My tiger swipe on my shoulder did a little. But I think that's gone now.

You guys are discussing some out there shit, I can't even watch Bondi Vet
We know a guy, totally hairless, I think he has 36 piercings, you can see 12 or so when he is in shorts. Tattoo's cover a large area of his skin with red veins tattooed on his head/neck.
People at the camp we go to used to call him lizard man, he is the nicest bloke and will go out of his way to help anyone... to be honest, I wondered why? before we got to know him.

I have ink from all over the North Island and I am not sure that al the tattooists are still working - or in the same shops .. in fact I know that some are not.
I do recommend Siren Tattoo in Whakatāne she is working on my back at present - the lightest hand I have ever felt - and a great artist ...
I'll try to find a link on the interdweb

Gore area check out TEMPLE TATTOO in Lumsden. Steve is a top bloke, good tattoo artist and style with a good attitude. Recently did a large family crest for me, more than happy with it.
First ever tattoo was my worst. I got stabbed in the arm with a fountain pen at school, it has since been tattoed over and hides under Mickey Mouse's ear.
Have a few bits and pieces done by Down Under ChCh , Buzz Works (gone) Tattoo Emporium (gone) Show Us Your Tats Invercargill, most notable tattoo is my white tiger done by Large As Life many moons ago ... took (a day of my life) 12 sessions to do

Keloids are scars that are healed, I found bpanthan (sp) sped up the healing process (to my dismay)
I figure it's one of those risks we take with any skin breaking. Depends on how big it is, some of mine have faded over the years mind you I'm not pierced.

Ah shit.. i didn't know that :( bpanthan aye.. i'll try that. I thought about just taking it out but if a keloid is a healed scar then i might as well keep my piercing in there to cover it a bit.
Can you get keloids from tattoos too?

Generally no. But a keloid is a way that the skin forms a scar, which is from breaking skin. A tattoo does that.
I've seen some people keloid from the smallest things.

Go to the studio before hand and there is always an "arty" person able to work up an image. Make sure it is exactly what you want before committing to ink. You can always modify the image prior.
Then you get it transferred onto you, so you can check final look (once again prior to the gun getting fired up).

Silly me. Thinking tat because it is a tat thread...
As for "flipping" the image, do you mean reverse it?
If so, just tape the paper with your current image to a window facing the sun, tape another piece of paper over the top and you can probably just trace the image (correct way around) onto the new paper.

The areas the I've been told hurt the most are areas that have to move multiple ways like around the armpit or areas that dont see much sun. My tattooist reckons the ones he felt the most were when had had behind his knees done simultaneously by two different artists, one on each leg.

Seems you missed my point...or maybe you didn't. But I don't want to inflict pain where the sun don't shine.
Yup pain is relative...worst pain of a tat was when the artist went out for a fag break and then restarted. It was like putting a shoe back on over a burst blister. I just have a couple of little tats one on each upper arm; can't be arsed shaving to keep the tats looking their best...so more would mean lots more daily shaving.

Its got me fucked, I feel every action of the needle, burning and cutting into me, on and on, all different levels of pain but pain none the less.
All of my tatts have hurt like fuck, and Ive got a few, Longest session I have done is 5 hours.
Its true that after a few minutes of starting that it calms down, Bit I find within an hour or so it starts building in intensity to a point its just getting ridicules.
Still, Its all a matter of relaxing and putting up with it.
Whats also got me fucked is a couple of years ago I went5 and got a massive cyst removed from my fucking skull, The doc had to do same crazy shit to get it out as it had effectively become part of my head, afterwards he said he could only go as rough as he did because I seemed to have an abnormal tolerance for pain.
Afterwards he showed it to me and then cut it in half, fuckin gooey pussy shit inside, and the smell, holy fuckery.

The amount of pain depends on the tattoo artist - I've had some with a very heavy hand and some with a soft hand ...
I'm off to get more ink today (from one with a soft hand.)

Post #81 - who in their right mind would have that inked into their skin!!! At least the butt hole female (I couldn't bring myself to say "lady") from theRock video, well hers at least won't be on public display to all and sundry going about their everyday lives.
I was going to post a pic of my cheetah crouched ready to spring from a tree branch (tattoo is on my hip) but was worried that my more rounded figure might make my cheetah have to ask "does my arse look big on this?" . Just to explain, the tatt was done 20 years ago and you know the old joke about the woman who gets a rose tattooed on her boob and it ends up as a long stemmed one...
My other ones are a wee bluebird of happiness, and an intertwined treble and bass clef on my ankle. My daughter and I had that done at the same time so mummy and daughter (it was her idea) have matching ones.

My brother shouted me my first tattoo on Christmas eve. Only small and simple but it's a start and I have always wanted a few. This one super dear to my heart - my late fathers handwriting from one of the last cards he sent me..
"Love you heaps... Pappy xx"
No possessions of his that I can keep - now having this on me seems to have helped settle me a lot. Already looking forward to my next one

Looks pretty Epic for a first Tattoo, that's huge. Would like to get one, a mural of lifetime acheivements/moments morphed into a rolling mural but I get a little Psoriasis on my skin so don't want to take the 50/50 risk of a reaction.
So I'm content admiring the classy stuff here at http://www.inkedmag.com/girls/

5 sessions, first was a couple of hours, the others were around the 4 hour mark each.
Had thought about getting one for quite some time (years and years) but never really knew what. Then seeing something on the interwebs sparked some ideas, and all of a sudden the time was right. The idea didn't really lend itself to a sleeve or something like that, so chest it was.

MASSIVE piece for a first tat... my only "regert" about my first was that it was not big enough. I was supposed to get other supporting tattoos but money got tight.
One day.
I want to get my sleeves and some more on my chest before I get my back finsihed. It has only been 20 years since I started my back... it can wait. Tattoos are forever and there are other tattoos I regret not having more than I regret not finishing my back.
I would probably feel differently if I knew what I want on my back as much as I know what I want on my sleevees and chest.
PS, any potential sponsors are welcome to get in touch. Shirley there is a few people on here who would pay good money to see me in pain for a few hours?

People who have been drinking bleed a lot more ... most tattooists I know won't touch some one who has been drinking for that reason .. it's something to do with the alcohol thinning the blood and stopping coagulation

It looks ok at first glance.
Not so much when actual able to see properly.
Much like a home car painting, proof is in the finished product. As in all done and healed. A good artists work still looks good 30 years later.

Shit that was a big chest piece for a first! I admire your commitment to the art.
I got one when I was 30 - the plan was to get one every decade after - I am owed two tatts so far or I could go for a combo large one.
First was a 'test' one I guess in retrospect on my arse cheek. Either that or I had a subliminal desire to expose my buttocks to a big man with a tatt gun.
It was a toss up between shoulder or butt. I am glad that piece is not on my shoulder now - nice work well executed (aware winning artist) but certainly reflects what was in 20 years back.
So the delay over the last 2 have really been driven by what do I want to keep in a more visible location for the rest of my life.
