Hi everyone, I'm new to Kiwibiker...in fact the website is telling me I am it's newest member :ride: Anyway...my flatmate has just bought a 1988 Honda NV Steed 400...and here's the dumb question...we can't, for the life of us, find the release button/lock/switch for the seats. Retarded or what?! Can anybody out there help us bust through this mental block and open up the seat?? Fingers crossed. Thanks!

Ummm no :woohoo: but look for a key hole around or close to the seat. Welcome to KB. :spudflip:

check the helmet lock, it may have a control cable to the seat, give it a turn either way and see if the seat loosens

Yep what Timber020 said.....
Helmet lock should be on the left hand side under or near the back of the seat.

Oh yeah and welcome to KB.

It's a cruiser mate. Might not have one under the seat. Check under the back seat. If it has a storage space it would be there and there should be a door right above the rear fender. Either that or it's like the VN800 and one of the side covers is it.

BTW is it the V-4 version? Nice.:Punk:

Like Waylander said, it's a cruiser...so you should have got your flatmate to ask some questions before the decision was made to get it. But apart from that, hope you've found it - took me 6 months to realise my first bike had a tool kit with it, quite a nice suprise actually. Oh, and welcome to the site, hope you're here to stay and not just a fly by nighter, also if you come across some one called winja, we're all sorry. Best of luck.

If it is anything like my NV400sp model the helmet clip acts as the lock and there is to levels one on each side of the bike which let the seat be released if the helmet lock is unclipped.

That sounds about right - the VF500 (84-86 or thereabouts) was the same: unlock the helmet lock, the look for the lever(s). Mind you, some bikes (like the CB250RS) have bolts. I nearly broke the seat in half trying to get that undone, before I realised you needed to unbolt it. Hard luck if your only spanners are under the seat...

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies and welcomes. Well a) I finally figured out how to find my thread and post a response (d'oh!) and b) I am happy to inform everyone that yes, vifferman, far from being a DumbArse, was right...the seat had to be unbolted with an allen key between the riders seat and the pillion. Thank god that's over and done with. Yay. I don't intend on being a fly-by-nighter either. I'm arranging to sit my handling certificate, and am on the lookout for a reliable, cheap 250 to see me through until I eventually get my full license. Please, no GN250 jokes. I get enough of that from my flatmate. Until next time! :ride: :Punk: :devil2:

Welcome Sikpuppy. Hope you enjoy KBers. I have a Virago 250 but she needs a new battery now because I have let her sit too long over the winter :nono: Not a wise move!!! :oi-grr:

What you want for learning on is an NSR250SP http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=15866&highlight=NSR+250

hell yes, I started on the 500cc version... its awesome bike to learn on - better than a tzr250 with wheatbix carbs for sure.

You are a bastard HDT ;)
