Not that it has much to do with op but the Dude that runs the Haast gassy shifted my bike while I was inside paying in March to make way for a car. Couldn't work out why I was pissed off with him moving it and my helmet, put my helmet on the damp ground and stones.

That's a crappy tank range but you will make it. Fill at Fox and top up at Haast. That should then get you to Wanaka, or before then Hawea by the lake has a gas station (I believe so, but we never bother looking when we fly by)

Prepare for a price shock when you get down the deep south West Coast. The Coasters take that saying, black gold, to a new level.

Pretty sure the hast is 24 hour card but would stand to be corrected.

There is also fuel at Makarora between Haast and Hawea, but it is the most expensive in the country. Haast does have a card machine but quite often wont work, just walk over to the pub and drag the owner out if that happens, just be prepared to pay extra. There is a comprehensive list of servos on this site somewhere too.:niceone:

If I run low I'm ok with bribery and corruption, that's the deal sometimes with a tiny tank and dinosaur that likes juice.

Even if it's 20c per liter more expensive is it really a big deal? If you have a 20L tank thats only $4 more than anywhere else. It's a single fill up on a trip with heaps of gas stops. And pies.

The max only has a 15L, so even cheaper. And at over 270 kg, I'll pay the 20cpl

Mrs H had to give me CPR when we refuelled there once. It was 2 cents a litre more expensive than Milford Sound! Gahh! Thud.

Yes indeed supermarket dockets are not accepted, between Fox and Wanaka I chuck in $10 worth at Haast so I know I won't be pushing it, have gone from Fox to Hawea with 0.5 litre to spare, won't repeat it.

When are you guys crossing on the ferry. I am booked for the 08.00 Bluebridge ferry on Mon 25th Nov and aim to be in Invercargill on Wed 27th. Whether I go east coast or west coast will be weather dependant and I will decide ion the day.

You can buy siphoning hoses now so you dont have to swallow the first 100ml's of gas.
