Right,

Its about time I posted a thread about the 1981 XJ550 cafe' racer I'm building.

I'm taking all the lessons learned (and a few others) from my XZ400 cafe racer build and doing things bigger and better with a more sought model of old Yamaha

Here's a pic of what I have started with.

Its a very shabby looking 1981 XJ550. but atleast it runs and has live plates.

Yuck what a grubby engine. If you look closely you'll notice that the previous owner has used of all things a golf tee to plug a vacuum leak in the intake manifold! Now that's a mod you don't see on every bike :nya:

Whats happening? Its been a month. Just winding ya up..

Have you still got the XZ? I wanted to talk to you about the tank you fitted but can't PM yet.

I'm undertaking a similar project and have a gs550 tank which doesn't quite fit and wanted to know if you had the same prob? If so did you modify frame or tank?

Would like to see bike if you still have. I'm local(ish).

I know it's a long time since you started this project, but I was wondering if you had the airbox sitting around and wanted to part with it for a few $?
