Bike hire or buy, for tour of South Island?

Howdy . I'm hoping to be in NZ early next Jan, and would luuurrve to haed around down south. Thinking of maybe a week. Milford, Queenstown, Mt Cook etc. Coupla years back I got info & DVD's etc from a hire outfit--- seemed 'kin expensive... like about $300 per day. I've heard of places that will sell you a bike then buy back at an agreed price? Other option is to buy 2nd hand but then im stuck with trying to sell it. Dont want the latest and greatest bike; thinking of maybe 10 yr old ZX9, Blade, GSXR750 or similar. Long as it's sorted and reliable and got a bit of mumbo. I'll be based in either ChCh or Blenheim. ChCH probably better. I'm from there. Thanking you all for any kindly considerations.

Kind of chilly and icey down there at the mo.
However, You may want to google up some dealers in ChCh and e-mail them with your plans
with buy back etc.

Check out this also: http://www.citymotorcyclerentals.com/ They have a couple of V-strom y. 2006 that my mate and I rented a few months ago for a rather lower price than the average. The owners are very kind, available and we felt home (to the extent possible for someone coming from the antipodes...) from all the possible viewpoints.
