Cost of training?

At the risk of being flamed, wanted to find out from others how much their rider training has costed (or should cost).

I enquired recently and the figure for a 1hr lesson, was the same cost as the 1hr restricted test and the restricted licence application, put together.

I know there's more to it than that (NZTA probably subsidises tests to some extent etc etc) but does anyone have an idea what a 1hr on-road lesson should cost?

Don't know of any 'group courses' on the go in my area either unfortunately.

It entirely depends who you go to and what lesson you choose. I'm in Wellington. My BHS training altogether cost about $100, incl bike hire and learn to ride. Roadsafe BHS is about $180 I think, and Streetwise is about $335 or $295 if you pay in advance. They charge $75 per hour for on-road training. Roadsafe offer subsidised on-road training, but it is a group lesson. It costs $50 for the whole day. Unless you are a highly experienced motorcyclist, you really need to do their off-road session first, which is also subsidised, and costs 20 bucks. Andrew and Lynne, despite what I have heard some other people say, are both wonderful and caring instructors, and I highly recommend them.

My first course was a lesson followed by the BHS test and cost $260 for both. I had another lesson shortly after for an hour, in a carpark and I think that was anywhere between $100-$140, can't remember specifically. I feel like I had one more after that, same thing, but can't remember now. I also attended a course on road led by one instructor with three other riders plus myself, I think it was 6 hours incl. stopping for lunch etc. and was $20, subsidised by ACC. I don't know how much it would normally be. Most recently I paid $100 for a 2 hour instructor led lesson on the road (1 on 1) although he said that was "mates rates" as I'd met him on the group course. Good training is expensive! well worth it, but bit hard on the pocket that's for sure.

Ah, I'd seen but forgotten about, the ACC-subsidised courses.

Have contacted the Otago area one via http://www.rideforever.co.nz/training/ .

I'll likely still do the local one-hour one (it's $120 for one hour, but I sat my BHST with the guy and he's excellent so it's worth it). But finances don't really permit doing many of em!

catch up with the SR crew in dunners and they will give you plenty of advice, they still have the facebook page running and i think they may still do the thurs rides but will kick them up a gear when the weather permits
