Hey guys, I have been looking around for a while so though it was about time I posted something to introduce myself, I'm an inexperienced DR650 rider in Chch so will have to join some Wednesday night rides or the adventure rides around, you can expect some stupid qusetions but I have to start somewhere

delete your sig. It just makes you look like a wanker. And i think kb is almost at wanker capacity.

Hey, thanks for the welcome, hopefully I won't have a stupid sig at the end of this post but everyone needs some love from pam and her 5 sisters now and again
According to the wednesday night ride thread they still run from Moorhouse Ave but only during the summer, I'll keep an eye on the adventure ride thread as well so one the bike has a new tyre and wof I'll be back on the road.
I'll try and post a photo some night once I figure out how to do make the image small enough and not break the rules

Hi, welcome to the site and to the adventure genre which is what ever you make of it.
No question is stupid if you don't know the answer especially where bikes are concerned.
The Canterbury Wednesday Night Ride thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/142318-Canterbury-Wednesday-Night-Ride?goto=newpost) is still active in Winter but they are arranging the odd Weekend day ride there now instead
of doing that in a weekend ride thread so a lot of new comers will be missing those but they are doing it there simply as a lot of the regular WNR riders are still hanging out in that thread.
Adventure rides happen all year round when ever anyone feels like posting and a lot of our local stuff is indeed currently in the thread cynna pointed.. I'm looking for Christchurch Adv rides (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/133817-I-m-looking-for-Christchurch-Adv-rides?goto=newpost)... but jump to the last pages for the latest of course.
As for getting tyres, though you didn't actually ask, lots of options depending upon where you want to ride and what you have to spend.
A bit of mud about at the moment in the more interesting places so something a bit knobby would be my preference for the front at least at this time.
If you need a hand fitting it you only need to speak up and ask. Several of us fit our own to keep in practice so that road/track side repairs aren't so difficult when punctures happen.

Thanks for the offer on the tyre help, getting it sorted but I think I'll need some assistance when it comes to bike maintenace, I know how to build stuff that stays still (roads, bridges, building etc...) but when it comes the stuff that moves I'm lost. So I was going to ask if anyone in Chch was doing some bike maintenance and needed a second pair of hands then it would be a good place to learn.
I'm about to go on a 6 week holiday around the UK and Ireland visiting family and friends so will have to get out for a few rides when I come back.
Hopefully I have managed to attached a photo of the DR at Porter Pass.
