The black stuff around the fuel pump used to be rubber, now the most disgusting and hard to shift off anything tar/gloop/shit even the hoses are soft and sticky, yuk!
That's what 2 years of sitting with ethanol in the petrol does.... Better drain all the fuel out of my other bikes in storage tomorrow!

Send the bill to the Green party then. It's bad enough that kids are starving in Africa with bio fuels inflating the prices of grain crops (I know the NZ stuff is alledgedly made from dairy by products...) but this is too much, they're now guilty of destroying a fuel pump! That crap never goes near any of my motors. A previous employer in UK used to get bio fuel into our yard supplies sometimes to 'save' money all we'd know as the filters would clog and the trucks start running rough and break down.

Have you tried soaking it in ethanol?
:p

Ditto. Was that a standard petrol pump mix, or pure ethanol used for racing?

Presume it was standard pump gas, e10?
I got the bike (BMW k100 as a project for a pre 89 and bears race bike) as a crash damaged thing. Only 25,000 kms.
Previous owner had bought from auction as a a spares bike for his k1100, but ended up using next to none of it.
Has nz plates but started its life in Japan.
That fuel is almost certainly 2 or more years old, maybe double that.... I'll have a look for the last wof sticker later.
After some research, apparently lighter fluid will shift it...
Hope so! It's disgusting!

Those brakes look too big, you'll never go fast with those things on. I have one small disc - my bike will be heaps faster than yours going into corners.

Nordie, you may know, but isn't someone already beach racing a k brick in nz. Think I once saw some pics on here from nelson beach races of one? But maybe it was all a lowenbrau and bratwurst fuelled nightmare...
I'm not sure if I'll need more luck racing it or building it wade. Still, should be fun either way!
That black tar is terrible. Contact and brake/carb cleaner doesn't really touch it, lighter fluid a little better. Now using methanol!
Got a new pump off a bmw 320i from the wreckers yesterday to try and make fit....

I like to think of this project as a bit of an adventure bike; taking unsuitable bikes to inappropriate places. Isn't that the adv mantra!:first:

Nah, padmei, those brakes are all good. Look closer and you'll notice....
No lines, great corner entry speed at the moment:eek5:

Ah hang on! It wasn't all a dream, it really was a crazy fritz on his flying brick...
Das is gud ya?:Punk:
I knew not all my inspiration for racing this came from nightmares:scooter:

Probably a damn site easier to get through ruts like that than a boxer engine though!?....
When were these taken?
Who is the legend on the Beemer?
How much did he win by?

Took them at the Nelson Motorcycle Club Centenary races in Feb 2008.
Legend is Possum.
Win? Ahh, no. 60m wide of the pole line around corners does not make for good lap times...

You sure that's not his boy? Mind you 5 years and hard living would take its' toll. Did look & sound cool balsting along the beach tho. e was running a very cool sand tracker tyre last time I saw him.

Beach racing, yeah I've done that....:first:
