View Full Version : Ride Interest Check - Sunday 4th or 11th

Hey

I'm looking at planning a nice slow ride up to Wenderholm Regional Park, just past Waiwera Thermal Resort, on the Hibiscus Coast Highway 1.

A route and meeting points havn't been decided as of yet. The point of this ride is to take a cruisy ride up there to brake Sam in with her first group ride.

Seeing as it is going to be a slow ride, we can either take our own lunch and have a picnic type thing while up there, and because it's a slow ride this would be the perfect oppertunity to bring along a pillion and just cruise.

As mentioned the proposed date is either Sunday the 4th or Sunday the 11th, because I have to work on Saturdays until 2pm.

Any suggestions on other easy routes or destinations, we're looking to keep the ride under 200km if possible.

Wellsford and back?? SH16?? Either old north road, or just do the normal 16 route, very easy route...

I might be interested...

Yep,
Could be keen. I would be 2up so slow 100/120kmh is fine.
Post the Sunday its on for and will see if its possible to make it.

:) That sounds like a better idea (a slightly longer ride). I've never been on a ride up that way, so I'll see if I can dig up a previous ride and hopefully find a map. At the moment Sunday the 11th is looking more certain. Of course Weather depending...

yup weather depending :) I'm not keen on riding in the wet or heavy winds either, if the weather reports are correct (which they nearly never are) we should know about 3 days in advance what the weather is looking like :) Give us plenty of time to cancel

Yup 100/120kph is great, Sam will be riding a 150 so she won't be hooning around, also might have a friend on a cruiser coming, if the crowd is big enough there will obviously be some people hooning off ahead, but there will be a slower pack just taking it easy :)

Sunday 11th gets my vote as Sun 4th is Fathers Day Drags @ Meremere

Sweet, it's leaning more towards the 11th for us too, Sam's brother is having his 21st on the weekend of the 4th... and as you mentioned... Fathers Day too...

*has never been to the Drags @ Meremere*

Sounds like a good idea. Got a friend who wants to take a new pillion for a ride so he will probably be keen too.

I'm interested, but hesitant.
I seem to be riding less than 100khm. It's more rather around 80-90khm.
(That will probably change the more I get used to my bike I assume).

The more you ride, then the better confident you will become to ride that little bit faster.

I am just across the way from you... if you want to go out and ride to build up more confidence... then PM me... I am free most days.
I know a nice route to ride for learners... plus even going up and down the motorway (non peak times of course) will help as well.

The 250 ride that gareth_d organised was a good ride, I spent two more rides (and a crash) trying to follow the route and couldn't quite get the whole lot together, so I won't be the guide...

Started at Westgate, out to Muriwai, back to Kumeu or something, then I suspect the old North Rd, joined SH16 between Helensville and Wellsford. From there, some went back the same way, some of us went back down SH1.

weekend riders... humpf :oi-grr: When the bike starts moving in the corners its time to learn some handling... :devil2:

*isn't a weekend rider... rides my bike everyday*

Anyway... seeing as this is going to be a slow cruisy ride, bad weather would make is more crap for any learners and pillions coming along.

I'm still planning the route, and I will post a map and stuff later on today or early tomorrow. But it is deffinatly for the 11th.

Sweet, the more the merrier. And as mentioned, the pace is slow/medium so it would be an enjoyable ride for pillions :)

It's Sunday the 11th :) Gotta love breaking in new bikes huh? :)

Your still more than welcome to come along, as mentioned it will be a slowish ride, as Crashe mentioned you can organise to have a few warm up rides with her, I've ridden with her before, she's a good rider, and very patient, send her a PM and organise a smallish practise run, infact, if you do that let me know and I might plod along too if I'm not working :)

Ill see if i can make it on the GSX-R600... we will see later....

We look forward to riding with ya if you can make it.

~~

Now as soon as I have the route organised, I will be starting a new thread with definate details :)

Any reason why it's 2 and a bit weeks away??

placidfemme
25th August 2005, 11:28
Yeah this weekend, I have work on Saturday, and plans for Saturday night (maybe hangover material) and then I have to visit my gran this weekend :) Because she thinks I'm cool :)

Then next weekend Sam is going to Whangarei for her brothers 21st so she won't be back until Monday... so the weekend after (the 11th) is the soonest possible date/time we can both make it...

Also this gives people plenty of notice and it gives me time to sort out a route (I've never been up SH16 to Wellsford so I dunno where we're going... still sorting that out)

:)
