Nah, don't think I have started all that many threads actually. I figured living on the other side of the world might actually cocoon me from some of the monarchy madness that goes on but no, trying to see some news on what is happening in Wellington and the main story on both channels is that she is about to pop.

Republic my arse.

Fucking there is the problem rearing it's ugly head again. Mistaking what is on the idiot box for news.

As for Wellington, pretty much a non event apart from mass panty changing and doing the associated laundry. The recent storms and aftermath when put into financial perspective were probably 10 times worse.

Oh, and I think someone dropped a bottle of wine.

Completely agree. "Some woman somewhere is giving birth!!" Yep, roughly 250 every minute. And none of them are any more special than the others.

I feel sorry for the poor thing - destined to be hounded by paparazzi for all eternity - what a life.

(They seem modern enough to be happy regardless of gender, especially as a daughter would have been given priority throne succession ahead of any possible future brothers; the fact that she popped out a boy means it will be left to future generations of royals to take advantage of the female birthright to the throne).

Oh, congratulations to the new parents. I hope the media can give them some peace at least for a while. (Not like that dickhead I saw on the telly the other night blaming the public for the downside of his paparazzi job).

It's been an "interesting" day. Those who are the most vocal - almost to the point of obsession - are those who are "not interested". On that basis, it was a fait accompli that the KB thread on the royal birth would be started by someone who is not interested. Interesting.

I thought it was the first born male that got the throne, that's why Charles is next in line instead of anne, although she is the elder,or am I having comprehension issues again?

For some reason or other, having a Royal family gives me a degree of comfort. Not sure why.

Big Dave you need to have a word with your fellow countrymen about that- its Australians who choose to keep the queen as head of state. No one in England would be too upset if Australia or NZ left what little is left of the commonwealth.

A (Large?) majority want change. What was rejected last time was a model where the politicians elect the head of state.
The distrust of Politicians runs deeper than the dislike of the Class system. A model where the people elect the HOS would win in a landslide.

Anyway, I don't really have a dog in the fight, apart from detesting the above mentioned former PM (daren't mention the name more than once, she might come back). Me either - in NZ fight. I don't really mind Chuck for that matter, but what I want is a 'symbol' who represents what I/we are. And that's all it is - symbolism.

The last article I read said 'It may be too far' [for most of the career protesters to travel].

There are some hairy legged hippies around Northern NSW but they are probably too stoned to get past the random drug testing checkpoints that will proliferate on the roads north of Nimbin.

I suspect most of the action will involve heavy satire on electronic media.

Auckland's main attraction for me has always been that all the Aucklanders live there .... instead of down here!

Unfortunately that has changed over the last few years and most of them seem to want to spread out and bring Auckland attitudes with them.

Mine is a collective attitude rather than being about individual Aucklanders and as BD says, it is a nice place to be, especially for Aucklanders!

So please stay there and just grizzle about it, Sir Dovemyer-Robinson tried to fix it years ago but Aucklanders just pissed about and did nothing about it!

I doubt whether the new greater Auckland will do anything either because Aucklanders will not allow anyone to ever get the job done!
