View Full Version : Diesel power!

Well, turns out I'm a bike building machine.
Had half a day up my sleeve today, so I whipped the GT motor out of my bucket, and mounted the GL up. There were of course issues to overcome, the four stroke being twice the height of an MVX250 motor for instance, but it all worked out in the end...
Barr one small thing, (innit always the fucken way?), the carb on the GL comes out at a bit of an angle to the head. The clever bastards at Honda though, must have had other ideas for the same head and when you take off the manifold block, there are two different sets of mounting holes and the spares line up straight to the carb.
But it's mounting straight to the head, with no plastic or rubber between. Is the heat from the head gonna cause me no end of grief? If it is, I will need to make a manifold with a bend, or chop and move a frame rail.
So, in summary. This is the third build thread for the same bike, but I could potentially take it to the track on Sunday and thrash the living shit out of it.

Heat transfer may be a side effect but is likely to be less of a problem than the fuel frothing up from vibration.
Could be fine, could be horrible, only one way to find out.

Extra heat could cause vaporization of the fuel. As posted above though, only one way to find out.:headbang::headbang:

should be fine running diesel . just want to know where he got the glow plug fromI take the header pipe off, and heat the exhaust valve up with a gas axe.
Speaking of pipes. That'll be this afternoons job, then starting the little fucker up. The GL was running yesterday, so there's no concerns there, other than fuel frothing.
Might just make an inlet manifold out of pipe and plate, with the standard manifold block between it and the carb.
I'll be taking it to Kaitoke this weekend I think.

Big day today. Got it ready for tomorrow though.
Pipe was most of the work, but it looks fuckin spiffy under the seat, and is pretty bloody well built.

Under the seat = central heating - expecting a cold meeting are we ? Hope the seat isn't inflammable...
Well built = all I had was waterpipe, mister.....

I got my arm twisted into doing it that way. Hope it doesn't catch fire, I'd probably just step back and watch it burn.

Make sure you film it and post it up on KB.

Well, mixed results.
Need to strengthen up the engine mounts, and I'm pushed into fitting the CBR wheels because the sprocket carrier has shit itself on the rear, and the inboard front disk pads are worn out...so replacing the front end completely is the cheaper option.

Good work mate. It just so happens I know a dude who'll look after that BT45 front tyre for you too.

No mention of the Exon fuel tank. That said, I'll have to admit you turned up with a going bucket so hats off

It goes a lot slower. Easier to stop.

Oh yeah. Sorry to drip by your bike, both the RF and the bucket can ne named Exon Valdes I guess.
I'll chop the bottom out of it and put a plastic tank in there before it comes back.
Trial fit of the CBR wheel in the swingarm shows it won't fit. Which is less work, since the CBR swingarm is the same width and might just go straight in.
The steering stem from a CBR is the same as the MVX too, so fork and wheel upgrade!
About the only thing that I can't do in my garage, is mounting the carb properly to see if the reduced vibration will help it pull a bit harder up top.

More CBR = Less MVX = Gotta be better...

It's nearly completely Honda. The rear shock is about the only non Honda bit in there at the moment.
I am not happy about this, but since I don't plan on riding it fuck all, it's not gay.

Yeah the leathers are coming to the end of there life. I will get another set from Dusty one day soon.
Amazed at how far the bike went up the bank. Happy that the only mark on the track was the blue paint form the fibreglass seat. Nylon did the jop well.
