View Full Version : To Jet Set - Wanderlust

It's one of those nights, sitting plodding away with work, trying to make some progress. Have a semi-decent whisky and some cruisy music, always makes me develop feelings of wanderlust. Does anyone else sometimes just get the urge to up and leave for an exotic land? If so...where? For me, it's Malta in the Mediterranean. If I could, I would walk to the airport right now and jump on a flight! Bet my clients would love me. Where do you dream of going to?

South Island works for me (and easier on a sudden whim). Unless you pay a huge chunk for business seats, the aeroplane seats are too small and uncomfortable.

Otherwise, Alaska and Northern Canada for some adventure riding... Europe if I was y'know... forced to.

With that BMW of yours, there would be times that just jumping in the saddle and heading off would be incredibly tempting. The sort of thing where you say to the mrs "honey, heading out for a ride, be back in a bit" and before you know it you've ridden to the other end of the country :innocent: I think you're onto something with the adventure bike.

Planning on buying a nice Slab Side GSXR1100 next year in the States. Having it shipped to a mate in San Jose. Fly into San Fran...collect bike. Do Laguna Seca again...then maybe up into Canada along the West Coast. Ship bike home. Seems like a better idea than hiring a bike.

Yeup. Plus, fill in the morning and head into the back blocks to explore. Don't need to think about gas for another 600km+. :ride:

That said, there are days when you've covered 150km and you drag your sorry tired arse back into town. :thud:

36-38L has to be good for something. I've done 750km before, and had a little to go. She's a heavy bitch when full and trying to adv ride.

Feel free to join me mate! If it weren't for the fact I work in a Suzuki Dealership...I'd be buying me one of these! Much cheaper...and dare I say it...a much better bike! But they'll never be as collectable for whatever reason. How cheap is this?

But a Slabby...and I fucking hate this colour...

I was spoilt in 2007, as Harley-Davidson USA lent me a Buell XB12SS free of charge for three weeks. I'll organise some Harley crates to put 'em in when I'm finished...may cost around $1000.00 to freight 'em home. Best way to do it I reckon.

I like the colour but the screen has to go.

But back on topic,I had plans on riding around Turkey until Dorna canned the GP.One day I will get there just to visit the Gallipoli Peninsula and walk that hallowed ground.

lol. Fucking Bully! Yeah an FZR1000 is a lil boring. But they are seriously good bikes. Will waste a GSXR1100 in stock trim too. But yeah...I know...not as cool. I've owned a few of both. To me...slab side GSXR's look so butch. Like..."look at me like that again cunt and I'll chew your balls off!!!"

So there you have it. Fancy a road trip next year to Laguna etc?

Turkey would be cool Rach loved the place.

Hmmm, you mean stop off somewhere like Timor Leste with barely functioning infrastructure, check out a graveyard or two, use your Timorese work connections to approach a dirt poor local bureaucrat and procure an alternate passport, hop over to South America and shed your old life like a dessicated snake skin?

Nah I never think of that sort of stuff.......

Thailand would be the destination, and with an ADV bike of some sort.

The roads are crazy there. Driving skills are... "odd" at best.
Get an ADV bike for sure! If Newton's rules (action = opposite action) apply to pot holes, for every one filled in around the world, that hole goes to a Turkish road.

the South Island, just because I have not been there yet

and the Parc Mercantour in France. I used to live there for a couple of years, and did quite a lot of trekking and climbing there. Awesome Roads....

When I've done my chores me & the Chancellor are off for a ticky tour. I have a fully loaded TDM sat in the UK ready to go. Just need to get a bike for the missus. And a sat nav..
So, penciled in to date. Visit my old mates & stomping grounds in Scotland, Isle of Man for the Manx, possibly Ireland. Sweden to visit friends & stick a toe over the Arctic circle. Germany to visit rellies & take up the offer of going round the Sachsenring in a Porsche, guy who made the offer has never seen me drive.....:shifty:
And finally southern Spain to visit the old fella, go adventure riding and drink Rioja.
Lots of flat earth riding between stops but great destinations for us. Really looking forward to doing a decent trip with my G/F now she is licensed. Well, on her way to being.
When the mist clears & the bank account fills up I will be checking on MotoGp, Superbike, Extreme Enduro (really fancy Romania) and world Trials rounds for en route entertainment.

Failing all this I want to ride across the Simpson Desert.

Very tempting. How long would you be going for? I am planning to replicate the "long way down" ride sometime before I am 35 (29 now) and the long way round sometime before 40. Taking 6 months a piece to do it.

4 weeks will still allow a great road trip. I would LOVE to join you, but alas...my contracting clients and new start-up company would not thank me for buggering off for that long.

All good Bro! I plan to do plenty more! And yeah...I was only on the road for three weeks last time. Managed to see some pretty fucking cool things in that time. But I can certainly recommend Laguna Seca as a GP to go to. Never EVER rains there. No other GP I know of you can say that about. 22-32 deg c every day. Silicon tits and beer tents everywhere. It's fucking horrible.

The Andes and the Amazon River.

Northern India,
The foot hills of the Hindu Kush is some the the most beautiful country on the planet and some tribes people still live in comfort there as they did a thousand years ago.
