I dug a picture out for 98tls to show him the bars I had on a Bandit a few years ago. I actually got a little bit emotional over the old thing.

There are 2 more I still wish I had been able to keep to this day. Not that GSF quite as much, even though it was an exceptional machine but it made me recall a couple of others.

(Apart from the 'j' of course, I still got that one.)

The 955i (in White Trash's words) was a fucking animal, and I can't disagree with that. Even thinking about the rides I had on it still give me wood.

When I was seventeen and had my first proper full time job I bought a 750 four. It was rubbish and I got rid of it for a Dominator that was well older.

Wish I still had that old Norton.

So, ladies and jellybeans. Pictures obviously are encouraged, which ones do you really wish you still had closeted in the garage's corner?

The Steve Roberts TR500 I had in 1980, the Kawasaki H2B I had in 1981. the ex Randy Mamola TZ250 I had in 1981, the GT750K I had in 1977, the Honda CX500Turbo I had in 1984, all the DS7's R5's and RD250/350's I owned in the '70's. And probably more i I think about it. 286141286143

Because I regret selling the bikes mentioned above, wishing I had had the forethought to bury them away, I have decided that I will never sell this. I don't ride it any more due to an injury to my leg a couple of years ago, but I like looking at it in the shed.

I'm keeping the 'j' for the same reason. It may be many moons before I ride it again but it's a keeper.

Yeah, shame I wrecked it, sold the TZ motor to a go kart guy and fitted a RD350 motor. This was before I learned the history of it.
It was the TZ that Randy damaged badly at Wanganui in 1974. Before that he had had a major engine blow up, and was given another motor for it by John Boote, on condition that when he got back to the states he would send his spare motor out to John, which he did. (john told me this just last year when I was talking to him). At the end of this summer season here, Randy went back to the states, leaving the damaged TZ here. It was repaired and went thru a few NZ owners, exactly who I am not sure, although I understand Lynsday Williamson was one of them.
I bought it from Blair Carpenter motorcycles, although at the time I worked for Doug Cresswell Suzuki and there was a TZ350 in stock there at the time, but the 350 was too dear for me.
I raced that little TZ for a season at ruapuna, I loved it.

But these ones still make me sad I parted with them. For various diff reasons. The 79 CR250 because it's the most pristine example of the most gorgeous production moto-x bike ever made I've ever seen. The GPZ1100 because it was my first big road bike and the first time I ever road raced anything (Gracefield). The KR1SP because Mark Boyle and myself made them here in Wellington to compete with the faster RGV's aand NSR's and I won the NZ250 TT title on it in 1991. The YZ465 because it's a YZ465...sadly I never got to race it. The RS250 because it's quite simply WITHOUT a doubt the most amazing thing I've EVER ridden or raced. Sadly I only got to race it four times before having to sell it. And the mighty Z1RTC!!!??? Well...not much can be said about that raving sick fuck right off lesbian of a bike. It was forever on the rag. But fuck me...it was a life changing experience to ride that thing on big boost numbers.

I keep bikes a fair while & by then I'm often over them. My YZF750SP I'll probably get nostalgic for, but not yet. My RZ350FU is up there.

Last year I had to sell My GasGas TXT200 Trials bike to raise fund. I miss that.

Also my first bike; PE175 I went 1/2 with a mate & only got to ride it once or twice before it was stolen from his house never to be seen again. I miss that one.

Strangely (well not really) I don't have electronic pics of these except the foul stroke.

That's a neat little bike crasher. It's funny how some stick in your head ? My H2 had mostly pleasant memories, apart from nearly ending it all for me! But I remember winning at Gracefield on it and then a week later selling it for $1200 !!!!! and entering the police college. A busy couple of weeks in 1973.

Had to run it in again afterwards which was torture but once done by christ that thing shifted, and the frame flexed, the tires ran out of grip and it was an absolute blast, best fun bike I ever had

Sucks to be a youngin and missing out on all of the awesome bikes that you guys had during the 60's and onwards.

These days bikes become legends in their own life time, and others like 250's have an inflated value. Early '70's was the best time for bikes - the fading away of the British bikes, and the rise of Japanese and Italian bikes, everyone was on bikes. But old bikes were just old bikes, having the latest and greatest was what they wanted, old bikes were worth nothing. That was my world - I didn't want the new bikes (although I bought a couple of brand new ones), old stuff was what interested me. There was no rego, WoF or VIN bullshit - you could drag an old bike out of a shed that hadn't been on the road for 10 years, go to the Post Office and register, no problem.

One bike I always regret parting from was this 1964 Rickman Metisse, just an old out of date motocross bike - like these days saying a 2002 CRF250 wasn't worth riding. Put lights on it and ride it on the road, not a problem in 1975.

I don't really miss this one, but another example of a non road bike with lights registered and put on the road. In 1973 riders of RD350's looked down their nose at me, but I was laughing, they were wannabes, I was on the real thing.

But this is one I do miss and regret selling - the Honda XLV750.

This was a beast of a trials bike.
Montessa COTA 348

I learned to ride on one of those. More accurately how not to get hurt falling off the back. There is a 247 on trade me.

Prolly the one bike that always comes back to haunt me was my DT 400, Stage 3 Stan Stephens tune. Only bike I've ever owned that I approached with a mixture of fear & exhilaration. It's still sat in boxes in a shed in Scotland with TDR 250 forks & brakes & a few other baubles waiting to have another day in the sun. Can't kill it.

I miss the stunting on a Buell. Any Buell though.

And no - no regrets - give me a new/next one any day.

I would totally own another 1992 GSF250 Bandit Slingshot 16v. That thing was a f***** banshee. 18000rpm screamer, hit 180 before the carbs couldn't send enough fuel, and the thing was perfect in the corners! - always good fun and easy to get the older drivers angry.:mad: ;)

Ignore the white trash backyard.

I used to have a 2000 GSF250. Great little bike, but when I test rode a 750 after passing my full I just had to trade in the Bandit.

None of them ... I sold them all for good reason - usually to buy a better bike ... and will continue to do so ...

There are reasons I don't ride the older bikes .. now we have better handling, better brakes, better motors ... and I don't have to be a mechanic any more - just a rider

I have no nostalgia for the past ... there's good reasons why it is the past ...

The reason I sold my Sprint was because in one year I had spent $4324.56 on it.
My thought was '' when the fuck will this spending stop''? do I sell or keep it? Some said to keep it because of the new parts that were on it. Started looking around, saw the CB and my mind was made up.
Buying new from now on lessens the expenditure, ok initial outlay could be twice what I would want to spend on bike but it evens itself out in my opinion.

The Sprint still remains the bike I miss the most, the comfort/that Triple sound through the Neptune and the ease of riding it.

see the one in the pic is a MRR... Malcom Rathnell Replica... 1976 world champ
bugger thought I had the only 348 MRR... O well...

The one in the pic isn't my actual bike. I owned it before digital camera's etc.

The pic is just one I found on Google images.

After the Montessa I also had one of these. It was heaps of fun (and 'old school')
I miss it because it was fun and easy to ride. It always started first time no matter how long I left it.

I also owned 2 twin shock TY175's but I prefered the TLR.

Well if we're allowed to post pictures of other people's bikes, here's sort of like my TXT200. Handled better than any other bike I've ridden. . .except for latter model Trial bikes I've ridden. Seriously. you think your bike handles well? give you a race through a tightly spaced pine forest section

Did it have Ohlins?

Every bike I've owned, with two exceptions. The exceptions are the 1984 GSX250 I had as my first bike, and the 2001 RSV1000 I swapped for my Hornet. Fuck the Aprilia was shit, slow, crap handling, ugly, and expensive to buy parts for. Why the fuck anyone would bother with them, I just don't know.

Miss my 1st ever new bike, we learned together haha, got faster too. Turned her into a racer and we had lots of fun, then got ahead of myself and upgraded to the latest by ticking it up.......................end of racing came soon after from having no $$.

Agree I had one. I think it was 1999. Was new and 28k to buy. Must admit the sp1 I got after was a better bike.

Hmm....my 86 VFR750. Toss up between the 98 TDM850 MK2 or the 1988 GPX600
