The 7th Capital 1000K Cruise

Saturday 09 November

Departs: Caltex Rimutaka, Upper Hutt.
Check-in opens 0630 - 0700. Depart when you're ready
Organised Starts also from Masterton; Putaruru (reverse direction) and the Manawatu Riders start early to restart from Welly then finish back at Palmy. Details TBA.

This is an informal ride for those North Islanders that would like to do the Southern 1000km Longest Day Endurance Ride, but can’t afford to pay The Ferryman. This year we have tried to get as far from Wellington as possible with resorting to an ‘out & return’, or being too boring. This is also to make it easier for any Northerners that need a fix after no GC.

Route is ≈1,040km via: (* denotes digital pic required)
Rimutakas - Masterton - Track - Aokautere* - Kimbolton* - Rotorua* - Putaruru - Puketurua* - Western Lake - Raetihi* - Parrot ‘n Jigger
Refreshments & Meals available at P’nJ to enjoy over the trading of lies.

Entry Fee: $15 (Covers Badge &/or Year Bar plus proceeds to Muscular Dystrophy)
To guarantee a Year Bar, entry must be in by 20/10/13

Badges & Certificates awarded on sighting Check-Point evidence at completion of the ride.

As an informal ride, you and your bike are your responsibility to ensure both are capable of completing the course. There is no recovery vehicle organised.
A register of riders will be kept to ensure everyone returns.
There are Spot Prizes (hopefully – still looking for a sponsor).
It is not a race and should be easily doable at a sedate pace with stops…enjoy the ride.

The ride will go ahead rain, hail or shine….probably....or pending the Wed/Thurs forecast.

Enquiries & Registrations – PM or email me

KoroJ
15th August 2013, 14:38
This should be another pleasant wee pootle this year, most riders should be familiar with the whole route but the rides through Rangiwahia, down the Western Lake and the Para’s are always good for the soul.

The $15 entry fee (non-refundable donation) covers the badge &/or year bar and the profits go to Muscular Dystrophy.

The $15 is required at time of registration please and we have to order the year bars, so these can’t be guaranteed for entries received after 20/10/13. Account details will be supplied on application.

As per previous years, Ride Instructions and a Briefing will be emailed the week before the event.

PS: The money raised over the past 6 years has been going towards a fund that is used to buy presents for children with muscular dystrophy. This event has enabled the value of the presents to increase and as well as that, small excesses have been accruing so this year, a cheque for $1,000 is also being presented to the Muscular Dystrophy Association…..So to all those riders that have tried the ride, thank you very much for your support.

Good to see that we can rely on the Tagorama players to know where everything is.

We can't have anyone spending more time than they have to on the State Highways!

Doubtful I will be in for this, but we'll see, other commitments is likely. Otherwise I'll ride it in peace another weekend when you rabble aren't. ;)

It was only a little rain and wind!!

Why, I recall heading over the hibiscus Coast Hiway and the rain was falling so heavily, it bounced so high it had to fall again....now that was heavy....and the wind later on, going through the Waipoua forest and coming down SH10....why it just about blew the wets off my back!!....not that I needed wets then because the wind had already blown the rain to China! ....and on the extension.....sheesh....now that was wind. Why, it even blew a cop right into my path and he almost sent me walking!!

Aaaahhh....by gum...but what a ride! Alas poor Rusty...I knew him well.

Again this year I will be looking after the northern Start. The start point will be the "Z" Station in the main Street of Putaruru, at 6.30 am.
The finish will be at the Okoroire Pub at what ever time you can get in. I will personally allow 13 to 13.5 hours. I expect to be at the Okoroire from about 7.45pm through to about 9.30pm or until all the northern starters have finished or I know where they are.
I enjoyed last years event and I am looking forward to this one.

Whoever paid, please contact me so we can get your details and add you to the mailing list. That way you'll receive the Ride Instructions, Briefing and Check Point details before the day of the event to assist with your planning.

Thanks to those who have registered so far.

Hi KoroJ, can you confirm if I'm paid up?

KoroJ
3rd October 2013, 13:06
I had a wee problem whereby my Capital Cruiser Distribution List disappeared from my PC. I’ve created a new one so if you didn’t get an email today, let me know and I’ll put you back on the list.

With the countdown approaching 5 weeks, we currently have 22 paid up registered riders (includes 1 hardy pillion)…and if the other 12 that have indicated interest make a decision and pay up, we will have 33. This note is a reminder that although we have 5 weeks to go, I need to order the Badge Year Bars on 20/10/13, so you really only have two weeks to ensure a badge.

One other problem I still have is:
I received a payment with a name and rego on the bank statement …but I don’t have an email address or any other details? If you're a first timer and have registered, but haven't received any confirmation, you won’t be on the email list and therefore won’t be getting email updates or the Briefing and Ride Instructions before the day of the ride.

BP Rangitikei?

...and...

do we have to do western lake? I'd be quite partial to nipping across to Kihikihi then down SH3 through Otorohanga and Te Kuiti and onto SH4 all the way to Raetihi

(only adds 20km or so and it's more fun than western lake IMO)

This sounded like a lot of fun. Until I looked at how far I usually ride and what my average speed usually is approximately.

No, actually still sounds like a lot of fun, but the brain wins. Would hate to arrive hours after everybody has left the pub  Maybe in a few years, when me and my bike have gotten faster :)

You can do eet!

SweetP did the first one on her FXR150 and had only been riding for about 5 months at the time. You only have to ride within the allowable limits ....and not get lost.

Oh, and I guess I better check the weather forecast. It would be nice to have a dry run.
